Have a variety of horns to exploit monster's weaknesses and specific buffs.

When in doubt go Bazel horn.

Get Wide-Range in your skill kit if you want to be a true support cuck and use boosters for allies and drink potions near them.

Otherwise just use a Hammer build and tweak as you feel. Horn maestro is also a useless skill, you should be playing songs at all times and always refreshing.

When you get to HR 49. There is a Tempered Kirin Quest.

Suggestion: Stalk him for like, 15 minutes and collect all the tracks, *return* from the quest and then do it again a few times. Try to stock up on ~10 Tempered ED investigations before completing the quest , and get at least 1 Kirin Quest so you can do it again if you need more.

Short term though the decorations that are ammo specific ups are great, and clusters bombs have a 1:16:XX nergigante kill

the last point the biggest offender and that's that they're tiered and once you arrive at hr49 you're basically never going to kill tempered non-elder dragons again because there's no point unless you need materials but you can just do normal investigations for that. there's only so often you can kill the same 3 elders over and over again nobody does kirin

It seems to me like all the other shot types are still kinda shit despite the buffs.

The armor skill system allows for way more build variety. Its a staight up upgrade from the old system. Potions barely even change how gameplay functions because monsters in the older games would attack in random directions a lot more giving you ample time to heal. CB is retarded now, I'll give you that, but bow is better and than ever.
