To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Persona 3. The symbolism is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of thanatology most of the themes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also MC Door Makoto’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from J.D. Salinger literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these themes, to realise that they’re not just about death- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Persona 3 truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the metaphor in MC’s existential catchphrase “Dou demo ii,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Salinger American epic The Catcher in the Rye. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Katsura Hashino's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. XD

One of the meaning of the Death arcana is change, along with transformations and transitions. You could call it a stretch but all of P3's social links can fit under the meanings of the arcana.

P5 makes it a point of having your expectations subverted, whether it be the Hawaii trip being disappointing for the characters, or Ryuji, Sojiro and Morgana all coming back after everyone assumes they're dead. My problem is when that rule continues with the confidants in the most boring way possible, and having outside forces stopping them that need to be solved with having their hearts stolen, which happens to at least half of the confidants. In P3/P4 there were at least some characters that were holding themselves back instead of some generic evil NPC.
