I'm thinking of ditching Catholicism and joining the Reformed tradition, I'm tired of how much Catholics lie about theology. What works by Calvin and friends should I read?

You're right, salvation only comes from "good deeds" Once you've done "good deeds", then you'll have the faith in Jesus necessary for salvation.
And by "good deeds" I mean receiving the sacraments, paying your tithes, and spamming pictures of fedoras across an Japanese cartoon pornography website the next time there's child-rape scandal in the church.

Calvinists literally cannot explain apostacy.

they were never saved in the first placed duh

>Anglicanism is Catholic
Mate, you're just jealous of our superior protestant religion. All the pomp and ceremony, without the latin.
Nathaniel Brooks
>pray for forgiveness >accept Jesus into heart >receive communion >lol jk God already chose who he saved, get out cuck Really made me think
Carson Ortiz
but seriously, if you actually accept jesus into your heart you cannot fall away from the faith because the holy spirit will sustain you. apostates are those who may have gone through the motions of attending church and saying prayers but in whom the interior transformation never took place.
Ryan Clark
You've got all the heresies of protestantism combined with all the pedophilia and corruption of catholicism, good job.

Jackson Moore
That's not how it works.
The elect can never, and will never, truly turn away from the grace of God.
The damned will never be saved, because they never and will never truly have faith, despite all their devotional pretenses.
Jose Wilson
According to Calvinists, even if I believe in Jesus I will not be saved because God did not choose for me to saved. Serious heresy to be honest.
Xavier Roberts
There's a difference between intellectual faith and spiritual faith caused by the grace of God.

Read the guy above you and go be illiterate somewhere else.

If Calvanism is true Protestantism, then they deserve every bit of disdain they get from Catholics.

The Gospels have more authority than the epistles.
>You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit

You can't be a person of truly good deeds without the grace of Christ first.
If you need the possibility of salvation in order to carry out your basic human duties of virtuous action, you're in a sorry state amigo.
Having faith is far more difficult than being a good person. If you know you're probably destined for damnation no matter what you do, it still gives you no right to cease being a decent human being and helping others.
If you can't or won't have faith in Christ, you have to accept that you'll never be saved, and continue fulfilling your duties despite knowing your on the train to damnation no matter what you do.
If you can accept this will of Christ without the possibility of reward, and continue fulfilling your duties regardless of what happens to you, perhaps you were always among the elect from the beginning.
Parker Gonzalez
How is your post relevant at all? It says nothing about faith and you conveniently disregarded the context there.
I agree.
Jordan Rodriguez
It is relevant because it shows that the Son chooses who will have faith in Him and the context is Christ speaking to His disciples and therefore it continues to apply.
Even Paul echoes this sentiment:
>For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-
Fuck you buddy. I might be from a weaksauce Congregational church, but at least we broke with the United Chuch of Christ when they decided to embrace sodomites. >MFW more than half of my congregation has no concept of election or predesitnation
Most of the membership of our church are refugees from Mega Churches, or other weaker-sauce churches (one couple came to us after their Baptist pastor dessed up as Abraham Lincoln for a sermon). All the teenagers who become members go thru the Heidelburg Cathecism at least. I dunno why they don't require adults to, probably cuz they'll walk. Start with some of the confessionals and then dive into the theological underpinnings. You can get the full text of the Heidelburg confessional (and may other Reformed works) here: reformed.org/documents/
Eli Morgan
>the Son chooses who will have faith in him Nonsense. >God hath dealt every man the measure of faith Grace and faith are not the same thing.
Julian Gray
>“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them
- John 6:44
>For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”
- John 6:64-65
God actively draws people into saving faith and grace is the consummation of that faith.

Ironically Luther was and would be butthurt about people calling his theology "protestant" or "Lutheran" instead of evangelisch.
