Understanding monster's movesets and level threeing where you think the monster's head is going to be. You should be hitting 8/10 times after learning the monster moveset.

I think attack is better than defense. You can also get guard 3 or evasion extender. Against Kirin evasion extender was really useful for me.

People are going for rapid normal, which for some reason means they use Odo's over Nergi's even though nergi has almost 30 raw more while sharing the same reload and recoils.
