Out of curiosity, how far into the event do you usually get before you stop grinding skills and switch to auto? The monotony of playing the same quest over and over again really gets to me. I feel this way at the end of every event, it seems

The only way to fix the uselessness of clerics would be to add a 4th party member
Also 3* units should honestly just be costume fodder, no one intentionally adds a 3* unit anywhere past the first chapters (honestly this is just a gripe with all gacha games and having units that looks nice but can never utilize them them because of the huge disparity between them and lategame content)
