Rise to Ruins is a god sim in early access that some user recommended me to check out in previous thread. It doesn't look particularly impressive so far (there are more defences than production buildings, or at least it feels so, and there's not much godly stuff yet).

That's because it is really a god sim meets tower defence, and emphasis on the latter.

Plus it is a one man operation, and for all that he manages regular, significant updates.

Yeah, I took a big break between later stages of early access and current live. Returning to laws costing influence (and a fuckload of it too), weapon systems being all weird feels strange, I gotta re-learn the game before I can brave endless difficulty again.

There was a point where laws were free? That sounds busted.

You only got one slot for them on most political systems, second one being unlocked very late game. Also you got stronger laws as you progressed through the tech tree instead of current "stay in power long enough system". Only religious was really proper broken with that forced happiness law allowing you to do whatever.
Also Cravers used to have rebellions, which meant you'd often get locked in a perpetual state of anarchy and uprisings flipping to pacifist and back, unless you switched to religious ASAP and locked that happiness law until the end of the game.
