Reminder to DELET ngons

In a top down action game, which do you prefer? A sword attack that moves the player forward or keeps them rooted?

Depends.
Why not have both for different swords? Like Estoc gives Alucard momentum in SOTN but lighter sword aint

>i have to texture each and every one of these
say it isn't so

Learn C++ if you want to be a real dev.

I'm not telling you to make a game with C++, but the engine you're using is most likely made in C++ and it's a great and useful feel to know how things work under the hood, you can even improve the engine if it's open source.

Just use the same texture for all of them. Nobody will notice.

Good luck

why? you will still have no gameplay just like you have now

Does your game have any sound or music yet?

Nice cubes. So it will be PSX-like building where everydetail is a texture part?

Who said I was going to go straight into texturing?

No. There are more important things to do for now.

Yes. Audio is one of the most important aspects of a game.

If I have a prototype of my core game (3D) in a playable state, without actual content creation, where would be the best place to look to find people for outsourcing/collaboration on texturing, scenery, visual effects and potentially also UI?
I can handle programming, modelling, sound and level design, but actually getting things past mesh and mechanics is going to be a lot slower and lower quality if I do it myself. The most daunting part of the development process, for me, is delegating control over areas the project to someone else, so I'd like to get a feel for what that 'someone else' might look like.

Originally I thought I could handle the whole project myself, but I don't want to spend two years working to create something that's less visually impressive than what someone else could do in 3 months.

Yes but its not the ship music, its just proprietary shit I use to frame what my sound design could look like once I get started on it.

Feels good, but I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to emulate the feel of the music I already have without it sounding like a rip off.

...

>Originally I thought I could handle the whole project myself, but I don't want to spend two years working to create something that's less visually impressive than what someone else could do in 3 months.

You are not the only one.

You have a choice - quit job and dedicate all time and resources
or
do it as a hobby across X years

There is no other way

Or: team up with someone else

>programming language
>library
>game engine

Is this the correct hierarchy? Are libraries useful to me?

depends, do you like reading?

You can't not use libraries to some extent. The API to your OS is a library. The API to your graphics card is a library. There are libraries that build in top of those things, and libraries that build further still.

>doesn't post it

Then apparently I don't understand the concept or am using wrong nomenclature. What are things like SDL or Pygame?

Libraries. The point is that "library" is not very descriptive. Libraries like SDL abstract away the details of each platform. Pygame is much more high level and is more like a framework (it's also hot garbage).

no

Post

maybe ;)

hey /agdg/, I wrote a tutorial on how to make a complete game from scratch using Lua and LÖVE:

github.com/SSYGEN/blog/issues/30

Is Uli actually still working on Platform Masters or is he too busy swimming to dev these days?

thankyou

the power of unreal...

...

Think I'll have some pizza this weekend in Uli's honor
youtube.com/watch?v=H2A1qYpp4HA

Which are further abstracted by game engines I presume? Point is should I bother with that layer or only focus on Unreal and Co.?

>remember the swimming meme
>chuckle at the idea
>find his youtube
>the most recently videos are actually mostly about water
welp

>check the followers on a degenerate h-game
>lots of normies and everyday family men

do these people have any shame

If you have to ask then you should use a fully featured engine. Enginedev is for people who are doing something crazy with their game that an existing engine can't handle well or for people that just really really like it.

...

oh no...

wtf is wrong with this dude?

you dont degrease your pizza, cancer-loving fat faggot?

he's the programming angel /agdg/ needs but doesn't deserve

NEWSFLASH:

EVERYBODY MASTURBATES

Isn't it easier to not eat the trash in the first place?

youtube.com/watch?v=P4uRnumVMOY
>he can't escape the earth in his game
Why do you even dev

Hello newfriend.

if you rich enough to pay for non-trash

youtube.com/watch?v=l2Cf-6vKVWg

holy shit he's uploading again??

You don't like pizza?

>October 26, 2014

grease and fat enhances flavor

>last upload 1 week ago

check the channel

Are you saying I'm delicious?
piece of gay shit

>SHEESH THAT IS BLUE

>tfw he completely sacks Platform Masters for a swimming simulation game.

Beans, rice, broccoli and bananas are some of the cheapest and most filling things you can buy. Nutritious and tasty as well.

Actually proper high-quality crops, vegetables and fruits are expensive as fuck. What you buy in your local SM is cheap GMO or chemshit so you can afford it.

Real natural food costs 3x more than that.

Beans and Rice by themselves is the most bland shit you can put in your mouth

idea guy here

pong but in color

>not making the ball faster
>or the paddles smaller
fucking graphics>gameplay fags

>color

Jesus christ, m8. Think about the costs. Hope you have a kickstarter.

twitter.com/bitrate1280/status/963756825215516672

how can codemonkeys even compete?

Do you happen to know the vegetable quality level that surpasses pizza nutrition levels?

Someone post that Blueprints art meme

these are original castlevania assets, right?

anyone know of a similar asset pack anywhere?

always ready to shit on unreal

>high-quality broccoli

...

vasectomy as a gameplay mechanic

>not the one that started it all

LOL how does this help anybody make games? wtf were they smoking

If this is real, I give up on mankind as a whole

If you're serious about making video games, you should start with this book.

>original castlevania assets
what did he mean by this?

wew, almost thought I was on /g/

like, some ripped sprites or some shit

...

>implying i dont have the dragon book sat on my shelf, yet unread from the compiler course i failed

that's an edit

Writing compilers and making video games are pretty much the same. They both involve programming and they run on computers.

girls don't

girl here

i'm masturbating right now

faggot here

get out of my safe space

get your stylus out of your vag and get back to making progress, thot

pls give me a job.

;_;

We're talking about biological girls

how is your progress so slow cris?

Happy Valentine's Day anons

twitter.com/Team_RainyDay/status/963774643403481090

what's up with their face

>tfw you haven't put any real amount of time into your game in over 4 days
i swear i'll make progress after i get all my homework in this weekend.

I want to focus on art, not finishing games.

oh

>team
how many people is on the team and who?
Also, what is the game about? Looks like another souls-like trash at a first glance. Like the art tho

I couldn't Dev today but I'll do it tomorrow!!

I've been posting in these threads for a while though a bit infrequently.

There are 5 main members:
- Me (leader + dev)
- Artist
- Sound designer
- Composer
- Idea guy

It's a metroidvania with gameplay inspired by Hollow Knight and art inspired by Beksinski.

dont you dare give corgis a bad name

>t's a metroidvania with gameplay inspired by Hollow Knight
>there are games inspired by Hollow Knight now
>mfw soon people will forgot SoTN
>even though HK barely came close to be as good as SoTN despite all of it

I do love me some more PROPER metroidvanias though. I hope you realize you are in it for next 5-6 years at min.

How long you've been working on it already and how far in?

>soon people will forget SotN
The only way I see that happening is if Bloodstained actually lives up to its hype, and the nuBabbys have their own fondly remembered metroidvania
