I haven't played this game since Early Access, but if memory serves me correctly, SMGs completely wreck your enemies and push their shit in like a 10 foot pole. Especially the PPsh, which you get like super early on too.

Weapons that magically inflate with damage for no reason other than "well HP increases so weapon damage needs to increase too"

A gun with 5 damage but an accuracy of 5 will do more damage than a gun with damage of 5 but accuracy of 4. Because of the ease with which the user can better place rounds.

Two guns with the same caliber but different damages simply represents the better gun's ability to be more accurate.

But they're literally equally accurate according to stats. Otherwise that's some weird ass abstraction that needs justification for why that rifle specifically easier to use than the other.

There's *several* abstractions for why a weapon is better - accuracy modification, jam chance, AP usage.

Weapons also have minimum and maximum ranges; a hard to handle gun with the same caliber of bullets could have a shit minimum range so you can't use it accurately against anyone with 30 feet of you, but it should still deal the same amount of damage
