There are some weapons you can straight up buy with credits but they're pretty crappy and only good for leveling up your Mastery Rank, sell them after you max them out to make space. For other guns you'll need to buy the blueprint with credits in the market and build it in your foundry. Not all gun blueprints can be found in the market and you might need to get it from a clan lab with credits or find it as a rare drop.

Firstly, read the goddamn wiki. Its an script heavy shitfest but it will answer most of the question you have about the game.
This is fairly normal, the starter guns are pretty ass. Guns will overtake you melee soon enough, until you start going out of your way to get some of the very strong melee mods (which will utterly destroy all content you are likely to play in the game).
Look in the market, a few weapons can be bought prebuilt for credits. You buy blueprints for most weapons (with credits)and build them for resources you grind up.
Focus on clearing the startchart and getting a full set of corrupted mods; you can sell spares for plat pretty easily. A Carrier or Helios sentinel is also a good idea.
The only warframes you should even consider buying with plat are Nidus, Harrow and Mesa (maybe Trinity and Saryn); they're all locked behind relatively tedious grindwalls. If you really want to buy plat, I would wait till you have a 75% off coupon. Plat should mostly be spent on slots for frames/weapons/sentinels
