I think Blaze is kind of boring and painfully overrated. She has an interesting design, cool powers and a neat role, but the base of her personality is boring and not even mildly fun. I think Rouge, Amy and even Honey (in the comics) managed to be fun or engaging in their introductions but Blaze is just "I am guardian of Sol Emeralds hmph mph I'm going to burn you where's Eggman Nega I sure do love having friends" and she just never stood out to me.

yeah. the fact that it abruptly ended just makes all the less than adequate parts stick out more. Way too much werehog/unleashed tie in, countdown to chaos is awful, world's unite is awful, and while I appreciate the larger focus on game characters, the older Archie characters that stuck along mostly just waste space and pad out issue length like filler.
I still like it, but where as before it was tied with the preboot golden age for me it's now easily ranked below it, which is a shame because I actually like the direction it takes on being more familiar to tyhe core sonic identity, but it has a serious identity crisis.
Not giving up on IDW though like many people are.

You've got a damn good point, and I shouldn't have generalized her like that, sorry user.

Either way I'm not saying people can't like her, but she has very little going for her that I actually like. I'm just not a fan of the defrosting ice queen archetype, and she's not handled well enough for me to really start liking it. Her 06 depiction is also pretty blandto me. She's cute and has a great design and motif but all I can think about is how boring it'd be to actually have her around.

So I was digging through old files recently, and I found stuff that, I thought at least, was fairly interesting. I'll only post a couple of pictures so as not to gum up the thread:

(This file, and likely any other files after this one, had to be converted from their original file due to upload issues.)
A early attempt at 3D Classic Sonic. (There was no generations at this point, so I was running under the assumption there never would be a official model)
The farthest back was the first attempt, zero proper reference and probably among the first CG models I had ever made.
Middle was a redone version using the official character sheet as a base. Far superior in every way.
Metal here was also made with the official model sheets.
Any differences between the two made off of the official character sheets and the ones in generations and after seem to purely be a matter of them wanting their models to look "cutesier" then I wanted them. Also I was 100% on model to those sheets for better or worse when making these.

Basically how I feel.
And I also think that IDW is going to be a lot better than lots of anons here think it will. The problem with reboot was it had all this baggage from the old continuity it had to juggle and it became hard to identify who/what was important and who/what wasnt.
IDW is starting fresh so that won't be an issue. Plus the other issue the reboot had was being to hamfisted with mandates, which we now know have been eased back a bit. We'll probably never get anything LIMIT-tier again which is unfortunate but we will get something closer to it this time.

I can see how the the abrupt cancellation can do that, honestly. The amount of build up & things that were gonna be explored down the line just feels like a waste knowing that we're never gonna get a proper resolution. I heavily preferred the direction post-SGW took & I still love the hell out of arcs like Shattered, Champions, Shadow Fall, etc. but it pains me knowing we're never getting a conclusion on all the shit set up in the comics. Unless Ian gets his wish & IDW brings it back, but that depends on the demand for it & if IDW Sonic does well anyways.

Will IDW bring back post-SGW Archie Sonic in a different line?

This was a attempt at 3D level design playing to the strengths of moving in 3D space while adhering to 2D principles. Originally for a group fangame project from around then I have since forgotten the name of. In the end only some flowers I had made were ever used for anything before that bit the dust.
It looks like a mess visually, but with the camera where it should be, it could of been very playable, if finished.

I had/have the entire ending sequence from Sonic 1 modeled out like this, but with the disparity between 3D Canvas (the program I was using at the time) and anything more modern, I'm not sure if it would survive intact. Also I distinctly remember the UVs being a royal pain and a half to do for the entire length of the "stage".

They were based on pic related and its metal equivalent. It's interesting to see my attempt in conjunction with segas official attempt clearly using the same base.

I get the feeling I was intending at the time for the entire thing to be either invisible walled so you couldn't fall off in moronic ways or have wing fortress zone like fans underneath to blow you back up if you were to fall.
