Are any of you actually making a decent living on selling your games?
Details if you do.
Camden Ortiz
Do you finish the database before mapping or do you do both things over time?
Xavier Butler
both things over time, doing one thing before the other just sounds absurd and limiting
Nathaniel Jackson
Both. If I really had to choose which one to do first, it would probably be the database, even if I don't like working on it. If you don't set up the database first you won't have items/monsters/common events ready for quests and stuff.
Austin King
I'm almost there. I can almost write this shit well enough it might actually satisfy me.

I am trying to set the story in stone, it is a story about mankind's desires, painted in a gray light.
For the most part, it's about getting to the MacGuffin before the antagonist. My issue is along the way, I want to illustrate the obscene lengths many of the desperate nations are willing to go for said MacGuffin. That involves politics, which happens to be great for painting the world even more gray but I am really inept with this subject.
Oliver Diaz
Someone should create a board on infinite, just in cause.

Is it getting comfy and fun and cute? I don't know why I'm trying to make a game, I don't draw, don't code, don't anything. No one is going to play this shit, only my autism. :(
Kevin Smith
This reminds me of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. Maybe it's the colors? I really like it though.

I still can't believe this is the 37th highest rated game in steam. It was a fun casual game, but not that good.

It's meaningless like visiting a porn site and checking out the "most watched" that's more like the most clicked. Or "highest rated" where only .05% of visitors vote in the first place.

How far can I get away with a decoy protagonist before players actually get attached to her and think of the MC change as a copout?

So... what are the odds of Enterbrain making an RPG Maker that allows you to make games in 3D... on the PC?
Failing that, for the next RPG Maker engine, I'd at least like to see them approach mapmaking like how they did it with XP, but, well... better. I'm not crazy for thinking XP's maps were the best, am I?
I don't see a return to 3D anytime soon, since they are easier to fuck up in quality.
But my guess is that their main focus in next gen will be the CharGen.
Joseph Lewis
XP maps were better. Not because of the extra layer, but because it had actually tile sets. I mean, think about it. What would the other makers do with an extra layer when the tiles were basic walls and floor for maze generation.
Juan Hall
>I'm not crazy for thinking XP's maps were the best, am I? You're definitely not. The vast majority agrees with that sentiment. Honestly, if they just stopped REMOVING FEATURES with each iteration we'd already be better off.
Justin Powell
I want to call a battle through Move Route. The only option is the script, right? What do I write here? And what is the name of this thing? Isn't call script, it's just a line.
Oliver Harris
It's been a really slow week. Time for a game jam?
Jack Ortiz
Which maker? And why do you need to call a battle through Move Route?
Cooper Watson
Only if it is a Lewd Game Jam

Why not? Might bring back some activity to the thread. Bring back the 8 hour game challenge or something.

>making a ship >the crew is roughly 30 people >but most of the crew is only in their place of work at all times How many empty rooms do I include? Should I include fifteen double rooms with some comments on the bookcase/table to give you info about the completely irrelevant NPCs tastes?
Anthony Johnson
fifthteen double rooms is way too much, if they are the crew you could have them in their working station e.g. pilot in the cockpit, chef in the kitchen, etc.
Ayden Carter
depends on who you're catering to. you could do that for the minority who would care but for most that aren't interested and to save my own time, i would just make a partially visible alley with a blocked off entrance instead.
Easton Clark
Does anyone really know what the conditions are for this site?
I've been working on a game with these assets for a really long time. But I've actually been thinking about possibly releasing it commercially. I'm guessing I have around 6 months more of work... should I just find new art? Or...
I kind of regret using them, but it's just so much and so nice.

First person battle or sideview? ATB or turn?
James James
It depends on the setting. is probably correct if it's your typical fantasy game; in a modern setting, there'd be more rooms, but they'd probably lock their doors so the player can't go through their stuff.
I wish they can optimize the engine so it can handle high res textures. Currently MV lags like shit if you try to work with high res parallax maps.

Any news about new RPG Maker?
Gabriel Kelly
I'm pretty sure there aren't any. They've been too busy publishing VN Maker, celebrating RPGM's 28th birthday - with a pretty cute banner, I must say - and working on MV's new beta.
I for one would love to hear of a new RPG maker. Bring back some old features, up the size to 64x64 so we can still use older resources and don't have to use that weird as fuck 48x48 size, make an even better character generator, maybe even optimize the engine to the point that a fucking 2d game doesn't lag in 2018.
Kevin Lewis
it'd be nice if there were a performant rpg maker
Ian Ross
Is it possible to have characters change classes without plug ins?
Zachary Adams
Event Page 1 > Change Class. Then just make a multiple choice event for each character or something.
Colton Reed
Thank you.
It's annoying trying to search for this stuff online and only finding people shilling third party stuff

How many unique skills does your game have in total? No, stuff like Fire-Firaga or Fireball-Greater Fireball doesn't count

Chase Hill
Looks like some kind of prison. So yes.
Nathaniel Moore
I thought it was a church/orphanage at first, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone said school.
Easton Phillips
Be more careful with your mapping though, it has a lot of tiny things that don't make it look that good. Basically the things in the red circles. The gates don't connect at the sides and look weird since it seems as though they are cut off. The one tile in the corner of the building is really off since it looks like you copy/pasted it from some other map. And you can see the green 'floor' behind the stretch of tiles in the largest red circle. I would say the demon statues are out of place except that its hilarious in hindsight to keep them there, especially if you go for a more boarding school type of building.
Hudson Walker
Tried cleaning up the parts you pointed out. Couldn't do much about those inner fences so I just replaced them with flowerbeds. Added a bit of graffiti too because why not, I can have an NPC Teacher staring up disapprovingly at it
Logan Bennett
Much better. One final thing to take note of that may seem like a small detail but really helps make maps look more cohesive is paying attention to the light source. Meaning where the shadows are. Because of the way the engine uses tilesets, pieces like the playgrounds ones have the shadows in weird places - though normally most people wouldn't pay attention to that so it's not too much of an issue. Though at least for bigger objects do try to keep that in mind, for example, the main building. You just need to extend the shadow down all the way down the side (if the light source is coming from the left side of the screen obviously.) Other than that, looks good mang.
Ian Sullivan
While I doubt they'll ever approach 3D again, given the shit reception both PS2 RPG Makers got, I do hope they optimize future RPG Maker engines for HD content and parallax mapping. Maybe even make Mode7 come standard, for those who want it in their projects.
I definitely want them to handle maps more like how they did with XP, and maybe even improve on it, like... being able to run more than one parallax at a time, maybe. For example; say you have a map with rolling clouds overhead, and crystal clear waters. Maybe you wanna show that off like they do in Pokemon RSE, where they not only have the shadows of the passing clouds, but the clouds' reflection in the water. Maybe you wanna go the extra mile, and have a bridge over the water, and an actor's sprite reflected in the water as they pass over it?
Point is, I want an RPG Maker that's powerful enough so it can handle however fucking extra the content creator wants to be with their project.

Been playing Lunar this week. I continue to be amazed at just how much conditional text is in this game
>NPCs in first town all have a first and an alternate text box for each party combination and progress flag in the first quest >When Ghaleon is in your party, nearly everybody in the world reacts to it ("Holy shit! One of the Four Heroes!) >After Ghaleon betrays you, you can go straight to Vane and hear reactions from basically everybody, which are unique to that exact moment after you visit Meribia, you cannot leave and Vane gets attacked straight after, which changes everyone's dialogue again. There's 50+ boxes of dialogue in Vane that are only accessible for a brief moment that is easily skipped
I thought Trials in the Sky had too much dialogue to deal with. Turns out the game I was comparing it to had the exact same feature. Lunar 2 is either better or worse about this; I can't tell.
Jeremiah Martinez
i love JRPGs from the old era. you can feel the effort devs put into them.
Luke Gutierrez
Looks more like an orphanage imo.
Cooper Gomez
Agree with the other user, 15 double rooms is overwhelming. I don't even care about the realism of where each person would need a place to sleep, just searching through all of that for potentially hidden items or equipment or plot details is mentally exhausting. Even if I really really really REALLY love the game it still sounds too similar and repetitive "bring me 600 rat tails" etc.
One option if your tileset allows, is to make them bunkbeds. Not only does this seem realistic on a big ship, but you can easily make a "crew quarters" room that is 2 rows of 7 bunkbeds which is more than enough for the headcount, and lets you even sneak in a treasure chest somewhere, and it's literally only 1 long room to make (remember to make it extend lengthwise with the ship lol).
Parker Green
what does the winner of a game jam receive? i never understood that part. recognition? more downloads? the satisfaction of making a game better than other people? a fanart?
Christian Jenkins

How do I get rid of what's circled in pic related?
Not hiding the stats for all characters just one of them
Hunter Ortiz
Well you got to understand that the status display works off a sort of template.
I suppose you can go into that and make a condition like "If actor id = Player" or whatever "then only draw these items" But once you start modifying the menu at that level, you might as well just customize the whole thing.
Parker Anderson
it's not really that big of a deal
look inside Window_Base.drawActorSimpleStatus() that's the function that's called whenever the game needs to draw the brief summary of an actor. name, level, status ailments, class, hp, mp. you'd just be adding a single line of code, where you'd skip drawing hp/mp if the actor being drawn is the tamer.
Hunter Martinez
