The reason why ESA's runs are so shit/long is because no one submitted anything. They had to pick the longest runs to fill out the marathon for the time they booked the hotel. Even doing this they couldn't fill up the full schedule. No one likes ESA anymore, especially ESA Winter.

It's expensive to travel.
Entrance fees are high.
People only want to go if their friends are going.
Making it happen twice each year is a mistake.

Most people that go to GDQ go because they offer a full package and won't care if someone gets in trouble for swearing or whatever. They want to hang out with lots of friends. GDQ has a full blown arcade. It's set in the Central United States each time so travelling isn't too far for Americans.

There's more to this than just what's presented on stream.
