I wouldn't call pre 3.2 Champion or Deadeye "decent" ascendancies. They were trash ascendancies and you know it. The buffs are most welcome and maybe we can see some diversity now.

The very concept of ascendancies implies class identity; if you wanted to complain about that, you missed the train by about 2 years. If you want a class with no defined identity, you can always play your special snowflake Scion and feel terrible.

There is nothing wrong with champion apart from being boring, maybe fortify nodes could be merged assassin style.
Deadeye would be also good, if not for powercreep of flasks and having pierce/fork w/e everywhere available.
The only "class identity" is just for summoners and flaskers, everything else is just QoL, people reaching top ladder without ascendancies to prove the point
