don't expect westerners to understand Zen aesthetics, it is aesthetics, but on very different standard from Western style, for one, Zen aesthetics is not grand or ostentatious like western temple, rather its supposed to be very simple and minimalist as a way for contemplation, and secondly, Shintoism derive its aesthetics around nature rather than buildings
