After studying alongside a lot of game devs for ~2 years, I can say with certainty that being able to code a game or make assets for one has zero influence on how good they are as players.
Hell, out of all the people I studied with, all of them either sucked hardcore or played casual baby shit like Pokemon. Only one, out of the top of my head, was good at shooters and he mostly played CSGO.
Have you ever seen Digital Extreme's Rebecca playing Warframe? First off she plays with a controller, and second she's literal subhuman trash when it comes to the game.

It's pretty common. The only time I remember seeing a dev team actually competent at their own game was NetherRealm Studios when they were doing the dev streams for MKX. That was a fighting game, so I'd hope they know how the game works.

I played with on Nightmare before, he was good. He frequented V1 often on that difficulty. I guess they just took the wrong guy for this and should have had one in the back playing, while two speak and freak.
