How often do you CTD? You're game sounds like it's unstable as fuck and loaded with scripts.

No CTD at all in 3-4 hours unless I get killed.
It happens if I get defeated though. Not always, but sometimes. I still haven't found a way to fix it.

Happens to me too.
Or if i need to load some earlier save, there is a huge probability that my game eventually CTD's.

This too. But I mean I have 230 mods. back in my days it was a miracle to run Oblivion on that without getting lots of bugs.
I tried to make Skyrim Skyrim instead of trying to find back what I had in Oblivion.
The comfyness of some mods is something I really miss, but modded Skyrim has a lot of good things too.
I plan to mod it to 250 mods. Mostly small things now.

Don't feel bad, I still get random CTDs. I still haven;t found the cause of it but I feel like it's a leveled list gone bad. If an area makes me CTD more than once i'll load up the save and wait an ingame hour and that usually fixes it. That and all the scripted mods and quest mods make my game a tad script heavy.

Is Oblivion really that buggy? I messed around with my modded Oblivion the other day and go through the tutorial with no issue.

Most common CTDs i get is when i travel too fast ( i have fast horse sprint mod ) and something fails to load in time.

I get very very rare crash when entering different cell or while loading despite having Safety Load plugin.

Too many item types also sometimes crash my games.
I play with 1mil kg carry weight so im lugging around a looot of shit with me and eventually reach the moment when i crash while im trying to save or load different cell. And it seems to be the case of having too many types of items not the weight per se because i had saves where i had 33k kg's on me that didnt crash and saves where slightly less than 10k kg's started to be a problem.

Best solution is just to save often and on many save files.
I have my save files organized into 4 distinct categories : i have worldspace saves 1-3, dungeon/city/inner cells save 1-3 and two saves when im facing doors to enter/exit dungeons/cities/cells.
But i never quicksave because it apparently messes up your mods.

So i just stick too normal saves and autosaves which i never actually load but they are a nice safety net just in case.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. It's a superstition. The game saves the same way whether you quicksave, autosave, or manual save. It does the same process.

False. Quicksaving doesn't halt scripts like normal saves do, leading to compounding issues the more times you quicksave.

The difference between quicksave vs manual and autosave is that the game isn't paused when you quicksave. Not paused = scripts running

Well it wasnt early on, that save had at least 20-30 hours. I completed Winterhold mage college questline, i had autisticly filled diary, was level 30, destroyed Dark Brotherhood etc all without any form of fast travel.

Ah yeas, the game doesn't pause when you quicksave. That's why it totally doesn't freeze for a few seconds when you quicksave, the same way it does when you autosave, and the same way it does when a manual save is performed. Oh wait! It does do that, and the only difference is what the engine names them.

But that's the game writing the file. That takes time, and that will freeze the game.

This is why it freezes even when you save from menus or an enter/exit autosave where you can notice the screen stalls for a sec or two.
