I usually just bring volt with a lanka, I use a 2-1-2 amp (not gilded). If it's pubs you'll have to keep an eye on the lures to make sure there's enough in the group which usually means I have to grab 1 or 2 to be safe.
It really is pretty hard to fuck up the first Eidolon if all you want is easy shards.
