What the other anons said, but I think there's also a distinctive set of people who choose the best/most unique unit from a gameplay perspective. Think of how SCorrin absolutely crushed SRobin in the summer gauntlet. Grima is an armored green dragon with innate Vengeful Fighter versus an infantry sword, so I think people gravitated towards him because of that.
