Guard up and Guard gems are pretty hard to source, just hang out in the T2 rooms here for a few days and you'll probably get what you need. You can sub out recovery deco for a Minds Eye deco with this weapon for thick-skinned enemies but it does jack-shit to Kirin and Lavasioth.

Lance could use some handicraft, not gonna lie, but it's still pretty comfy. I'd recommend slot upgrades over a defense augment, augment only gives exactly 10 points of defense and some kind of divine blessing but it doesn't say how much or if it stacks with other blessings.

What do I cook on the spit? Do I kill small monsters for meat?

If the monster is resting and has the green icon over their heartbeat are they healing? Should I be in a rush to stop them?

Crit Boost 3
Weakness Exploit 2
Divine Protection 1
Plus 3x1 gems slots, I'd really recommend finding the recovery threshold you like to re-up PP and filling the rest/if any with Vitality.

If you only need 2 Handicraft swap the Rathian Coil with Nergy and get a 2 slot instead of a 1, gain 2 Attack Up. Alternatively, I'm sure this could be a nifty fashion choice/solid set for Royal Burst with Arty gems installed, but I'll figure that out another day.
