Unique Pyro skills, with fairly high skill ceilings in my opinion.

the problem is there's no real reason to do any of those things now. just running at people is just as effective, if not more so than getting into a sneaky place with a well executed detonator jump, flanking with the backburner, powerjacking out of there and smacking someone who managed to survive with a crit detonator flare on the way out. it's dominant strategy at play.

Nobody is implying Pyro takes a considerable amount of skill, but you have to be braindead to think that flamethrower takes more skill than puff and sting. Both are low skill, but ft is lowest skill.

I really wouldn't want to play against someone who's reached the skill ceiling for airblast, or someone who can reliably hit their flares constantly, or who knows how to combo properly.

I like how you try to make it sound as if Demoman takes a lot of skill.

Flare punching still exists, reverse puff and sting now exists with scorch shot + dragons brap, there is also degreaser + panic attack which is good for combo-ing. Any of these loadouts work great for cmoboing and there are reasons to use them and get good with using them.

I mean there are a lot of reasons to get good with aiming your flares, etc. Several combo's depend on it. Hitting flares consistently is also just good.

And I mean come on, airblasting is huge. There are hundreds of different things that airblast can accomplish for you if you master it.

So there are reasons to do these things, you just can't get passed the fact that your getting killed by juan gonzalez 2006 for being within pyro's flamethrower range.

At least puff and sting required you to get close and ambush.

So does holding w+m1 but you barely ever see Pyro being played that way anymore. It's always noobs just running at people and that's what gets people mad. It's very punishing for people who don't know how to avoid it.

cont. If you want to have a flaregun, and a way to do damage with your secondary from longer ranges, like a sane person, then you'd want to learn how to flare jump with the detonator so that you still have that as an option on the table while still having some semblance of mobility.

you forgot to mention that your right click used to literally lock enemies into place making it super easy to predict where they would be while giving the enemy 0 chance to counter because they're completely locked into place
