>buy WOTC on sale >Put off playing it because I remember chuggalugg performance on Xcom2 >It's so fucking absurdly smooth and high framerate on high/max something feels wrong\
Makes me less worried about Phoenix Point at least. Granted it'll be +2 years from xcom2's release but it looks bout the same graphically
WotC's smoothness and speed honestly surprised me after XCom 2's miserable performance.
Jose Hall
They really set out to fix that shit for WotC. It gives me hope for PP. I suspect that Gollop will have learned from WotC's example and made the game run very smoothly.
I'm sorry I ever doubted you, Jake, you're totally my hero. You can poz my neghole any day, daddy Jake.
Brayden Fisher
I never doubted you, cap'n.
Gavin Lee
Can you make him in the game? I want Jake fighting for Earth.
Jace Scott
It's PP's art direction that's reassuring to me. Judging from the demo, they really nailed some creepy environments, with monster corpses lying around, alien growths overcoming everything, etc.
I think if you rename one of your guys Jake Solomon you get him as a "cheated" unit or something? Or was that in the original XCOM? I'd have to check.
>download only aesthetic mods >get to late game >see research for titan armor >neat this must be for wotc >google it and it's only xcom1 stuff >costs a shit ton but equip it and get this >mfw
The fuck is going on. I seriously only downloaded aesthetic or quality of life mods..
There's 2 mods that add Titan armor, the old EU/EW Ports and one that adds a research option that gives you a functional suit (this is the one you have) You probably just didn't read the description: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1281296244
I honestly don't remember and can't check since I clicked the ironmeme button, had many fortunate bleedouts this campaign so the number is lower than usual.
Joseph Flores
Same, I want some Amazon babes alongside the muscle hunks.
That would require a lot of programming in new animations and poses.
Landon Hughes
>pick up wotc at a sale >start up new game >import my donut steel soldiers >10 hours pass in the blink of an eye goddamn. I'm ignoring the fuck out of the primary objectives too, I have magnetic weapons, better armor and fighting against archons and I haven't even skulljacked an officer. This won't fuck up my primary objectives will it? Hot damn jake what have you done to me
I always wait until I have tier 3 gear to start doing the objectives lol Then I skulljack the officer and everyone acts like it's a big deal when a codex appears, even though I'm already fighting avatars
Caleb Howard
How often did you alt f4, be honest
Levi Martin
Never said it would stop XCom 2 from having those, it would be difficult to do it.
Brody Ramirez
A few times due to bugs, 3 most memorable situations.
>alien base assault Part of a seeker pod went permanently invisible and was shooting me from stealth, i didn't have any explosives or aoe left and battle scanner didn't reveal it either, the mission was impossible to finish, i had to console restartlevel that one.
>exalt base raid I start the mission within sight of exalt, I overwatch everyone on non activated exalt, they gain free turn and exalt commander one shots my entire squad with 20 damage rocket. To be fair I've had like 30 master sergeants by the end of the campaign so even without alt+f4 and aborting the mission saving mecs, the campaign would most likely succeed anyway, but enemy gaining free turn is unacceptable bug and I will restart level or alt f4 anything like that. So I restarted level there and I alt+f4 again when covering fire on some elite exalt bugged out on my scout and 100% hit 100% crit shot didn't go off, animation broke and soldier didn't fire but lost his turn. Fucking exalt and their bullshit goes far beyond aliens.
>bomb disposal council mission Map consisted of only heavy floaters, I ran up a marauder deliberately not pulling overwatch from one of the floaters and using flamethrower to panic like 6 landed floaters, the floater on overwatch had covering fire and caused flamethrower to miss, firing in a completely opposite direction, that's something that should never normally happen and never happened to me before, and I have easily 1000 hours clocked in long war.
I would love it but there's no reason and no chance of it. They'd be reskinned Sparks and redundant.
The only cybernetic options I see viable for an Xcom2 DLC (if the DLC Isn't just reskinny stuff) is Deus Ex style augmentations (which would be gene-modding meld but mechanical) or a step in and exit power armor on the scale of MEC or even slightly larger (not sectopod size). The ersatz style of cutting off limbs is out of place in xcom2's tech.
Lincoln Murphy
I'm sorry, but what the hell does Phoenix Point's performance or graphics have to do with WotC?
Aren't you talking about wholly different developers?
Josiah Price
Yeah they are, but my poor performance on Xcom2 made me think my PC is getting to be pretty shitty. Xcom2 was the most graphically intensive game I play (besides Warham TW) and so it seemed to bode poorly for me. Now I know it's just because Xcom2 was poorly optimized
Carson Adams
>finally started playing XCOM 2 after forgetting about it >soldiers dropping like flies on normal to even basic-ass Advent troopers >soldiers getting sent to the medbay for """critical wounds""" and being gone for a fortnight even though they had over half their HP left
It really feels like the bullshit level has been raised from the first game; I could clear it on Classic with relatively few casualties (without Overwatch spamming) but now I apparently can't go two missions without losing someone important. Is there some kind of general strategy that I should be using that I'm not aware of?
Use concealed units to scout, activate pods 1 at a time and alpha strike everything down before they can shoot
Zachary Richardson
I actually prefer SPARKs.
Aaron Miller
Xcom 2 is balanced around alpha striking, meaning killing everything before they even get to do anything, extend alpha strike time by crowd controlling enemies you can't kill or plan your killings around leaving a useless alien left alive, eg. in a trooper + sectoid pod you always want to kill trooper first because sectoid almost always does some psi nonsense, and that deals no damage to your soldiers.
Daniel Moore
I'm trying beta strike (x2 HP for everyone, also x2 the turns). I don't want to jinx it but so far 3 or so missions in and I have not had trouble with it. Supposedly others say it starts off hard as hell, is golden in the middle and then becomes alpha strike at the late game.
I got lots of cosmetic mods but no gameplay ones beyond not-created equal. So it's possible I've been lucky and nabbed high accuracy troopers but I was missing enough.
What I do really like with beta strike is now one of my guys can get shot and not instantly be killed. It generally is taking 3 or so shots (unless flank crits) to take down one of them or one of mine.
Asher Moore
What if they retooled SPARKs to be actual tanking units who can redirect portions of enemy fire into an ability and to handle environmental hazards (put out areas of fire for your soldiers to move through, dispel poison clouds, etc) along with having scanning and targeting abilities, while MECs are the big bruiser units who smash and punch?
Nathaniel Green
Does the wound system work differently in beta strike? I don't get how you would play it if wounds remained the same while you were basically guaranteed to take damage in gunfights
Evan Morgan
I've had my guys dropped to about 30% hp and they are 'lightly wounded' and out for 9-12 days or so. I forget about smaller HP dips, and I'm only 3 missions in so I dunno. I'd google "xcom 2 commander beta strike". I checked the reddit (I know I know I don't like reddit but it was the first hit and is better than steam community posts) responses on that google search and they described their experiences up to a full campaign of Beta strike. Most sung praise for how it changed the tactical narrative away from alpha strike and into attrition (less puzzle-y "How to wipe out everyone on single turn"), but it also had a 'problem' (or a feature) where high reinforcement situations meant you had to run and gun and not just wipe out everything.
I like your idea, I just don't see them doing MECs. I wish sparks had been more of a Shiv (maybe a kind of walking human + sized robot, think a necron soldier) and MECs were the proper tanks.
Lincoln Gray
I never played beta strike, I think it's unreasonable to think game is more balanced just because you doubled everyone's hp, although if I would try it out I'd prioritize specialists and psi ops, as mind controlling enemies with double the hit points seems really valuable.
Evan Nelson
You'd want something without a person inside for a tank, since it's going to eb taking a lot of fire.
Camden Evans
It's not going to be as balanced as the pure release, but it seems like a fun change of pace. Though yeah they do mention crowd control becomes the major new mechanic. So flashbangs, MC, stasis, meme grenades are even more valuable.
is everyone avoiding posting because they're angry about the OP and want the thread to die so they can make one that doesn't make them piss themselves in anger?
Andrew Barnes
that's a very oddly specific question, OP
Christopher Gutierrez
Not OP, using deduction and reasoning and observing many of the earlier posts' reactions.
Zachary Ortiz
Whatever you say OP
Eli Bell
okay sherlock
Chase Mitchell
No. I'm just doing other stuff man. While I am not a fan of buffposter, he's at least keeping shit alive until we get to PP and can ignore his rampant faggotry.
