Personally I'd say pick whatever character interests you and go from there, but ragna, jin, mai are pretty easy can can help you ease into learning the game. The game itself has a pretty decent tutorial and there's resources on dustloop and discords

I don't wanna use gohan until I can bring him in at at least level 1. And cell doesn't need to use a bar to power up to get his teleport move and he can combo from it with 16 assist. a.gohan needs to be level 1 and can't get much off of his teleport move.
Jill and Kolin would be a great couple. I hope there's a REmake costume for cammy.
gohan on point is still pretty strong and I prefer cell assist for neutral purposes, the problem with cell first is your assist options are kind of lackluster

It doesn't really matter when 99% of players don't play to a level where character strength even matters. If you play to attend tournaments, you probably won't because the game will be dead soon anyway.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, Dragonball and NRS games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!
If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
Please don't pretend Dragonball has more depth than Tekken.
