I know Zorah Magdaros Gunlance is sort of a meme but I've been trying it out and it actually feels pretty decent. 2 charged shells do almost as much damage as a Wyvern Fire, with no cooldown.

Always powerguard when you have the time anyway. The powerguard counter does more damage than a regular counter and if you fuck up you're able to hold the guard or move with a lunge or charge.
