The engine can't handle speeds over mach 1.05 properly, I think, so what's more likely is you're going to get attack choppers at the end of every ground attack tree, and maybe slow ground attack aircraft like the A-10 Warthog.

That would probably require completely reworking the engine. The poor thing can barely handle tanks and boats as is.
They know, they just don't care. The airforce aspect of the game is entirely secondary to tanks, since tanks are much easier to "control" from a gameplay perspective and people spend more money on them as a result.

I have been watching some gameplay of this, and there's a scene in a tank mission where a Tiger 2 bursts through a wall and the player has a clear shot on its side for a few seconds. Even if you shoot it in the side here, the shell somehow does no damage and the player is forced to retreat. Seems weird. Wouldn't any variant of the Sherman from 1944/45 be able to penetrate a Tiger 2 from the side at point blank? Shit, wouldn't ANY Sherman be able to pen a Tiger 2 at point blank from the side? Also, the crew seems to call Panzer IVs "Panthers" at one point, and the Sherman can't pen them from the front at point blank either.

If you actually play the mission, it's a fucking pukefest. The optic view has low fov and you have to constantly move around and look around to flank 2 tanks at the same time. Took me 5~6 tries and I almost threw up when I was done Also COD being COD, so sherman somehow cant pen the front of a panzer IV

one thing I remember about CoD 2 was in 2 final misions you faced Tigers, and were supposed to run up to them blew them up with sticky bombs. But if you had rockets for Panzershrecks, you could simply oneshot them from side. In final mission you could also run ahead of them and man one of abondoned Flak 88's to kill them right through frontal plate
