Chain Blast really needs a nerf. I didn't even get to see what Undead King does because the chains stuck around for 4 or 5 turns, during which he was Leading Blow'ed and Hell Slash'd to death.
It was an unprepared, messy fight that I should not have won.
You only missed annoyance. He summons adds constantly and throws out some ailments.
After Hippogriff and the third stratum itself he is a bit of a step down.

Not sure how the formula works in EOV but in some past titles the average LUC of your party influenced the enemy recover rate.
I usually use two Earthlains and one of every other race - it might help, I don't know.

One thing that burnt me out on those series was my autism telling me to go from the first game released to the current one. I know it really isn't necessary but >Autism. Should I go from the DS ones in EO or can I play the remakes I've seen?

Go for the remake, if you've been getting burned out then original 1 would make it even worse

I think EOIII is the only DS era game that aged well. And it's also the only one that hasn't gotten a remake yet.
The stories are not connected. The only time another game is even mentioned (and even that only in passing) is in EOII an EO2U respectively.
If you start with EOIII and go in release order you will only miss the tedium of the first two games (since the remakes polish them quite a bit).
Hopefully that is enough to calm your autism.

or in eo2u you can get an all in one beast or survivalist gathering grimoire from the pastebin (assuming it still works) and bam

No, you don't need them in order to gather. You used to in the DS games and you partially need to in 5 though. Can't remember how it was in 4.
I'd still recommend at least Grimoires - rare material chances are trash.
I really like the fact you can bruteforce most mandatory puzzles by defeating the FOEs on the floor because the main obstacles are usually the FOEs in the first place.
I usually do the puzzle and then come back for the FOEs, but right now I'm just tired and prefer to maul the FOEs on my path not even trying to solve the thing.
EOIII and EO2U both have a floor that you can skip completely by defeating a single FOE.
