I don't limit myself to them but I do have a preference for them, plus the type of male characters I like rarely appear in fighting games. Since there's always at least 1 girl I like both in design/story and gameplay, I end up maining them.
For the record all the characters I play in Smash are males but that's not a fighting game
It's not necessarily a fap thing. I main May in Xrd but I'm not into loli. I main Chun in SF and Sophitia in Soul Calibur who are more representative of the type of girls I'm attracted to.

Anyway, I think Sirlin mentioned it in an old-old-old podcast, and his general sentiments were that the game is so fucked on a systematic level he could only make slight tweaks to the balance at best, because any bigger attempt at a fix would break even more things.
