The goal is to destroy the enemy core, not getting objectives. If they're getting a keep while the objective is up i don't see the problem.

If they're not at the objective, they're getting an experience lead, most of the early game objectives are pointless anyway except for Braxis and Dragon Shire since the objectives are on every lanes at the same time. Sky Temple and Towers you can trade altars.
On every other maps someone has to soak when the objective is up.

Diablo 3 was popular based entirely on the success of the previous two games. It might have sold better than either but even putting Butcher in 3 is indicative of how iconic he was 20 years ago.
