For any pure dps class there's almost always one spec that performs better than the others.
Or one spec that performs slightly worse, whatever the case Aff is hot right now (it almost always bounces between aff and destro anyways).
Many groups won't tolerate a suboptimal spec, and most sane players can't tolerate demo.
Try it if you want to test yourself, otherwise stay away from it. Been awhile but last I checked lock was the least played class and demo the least played spec on the whole, not just raiding (I think SV hunter is least played in mythic but not sure)

Narrow it down to 2 or 3 choices and see what you friends/guildmates are playing, then pick what would complement any potential party/raid group better.

Survival is suffering from the melee hunter meme
Marksman is now an abomination of WoD Marks+WoD Survival.
The range hunter specs used to have explosive, not just pvp explosive.
No idea why survival gets a knockback.
Marksman was way more fun without trailblazers and other bullshit, aimed shot while moving was so fun too.

Mythic defaults to 20m loot while heroic is 10m so you have a higher chance in mythic. However with heroic you can share lockouts and skip straight to Garry.

They're getting another big temporary summon called 'demon tyrant' that makes your other temporary summons stronger while he's out.
Demo is now pretty much just another dot spec anyway. If aff bores you don't get your hopes up too much for demo.

I hit 2k on warrior in 3s, then I hit 1800 in RBGs. RBGs was so much worse. It can be really quick but you need to get in with RBG players and they are consistently the most annoying players possible
I think 2k in 2s might be the way to go if you just want an elite set. Rbgs arent hard, there just cancer and your individual preformance doesnt do anything unless you're rogue or DH
Some sets look really good on trolls, others look quite bad. On orcs most sets look at least "okay", sort of like humans.
