I don't think anyone would have been let down if Brave New World hadn't been so great. Like, if you sandwich a so-so episode in between Awake and Hell Is Empty, the whole season is pretty mediocre and probably doesn't garner a lot of attention after the initial hype.
There's a reason that the ratings on Steam were at 98% positive after episode 2 and dropped below 90% after Hell Is Empty. Brave New World had almost universal acclaim from fans and critics.
I think it was so special because it sort of was a microcosm of all the things that made the series enjoyable as a whole, in it's simplest form. It had a little bit of everything in just the right way.
It's funny, once it started going into the play stuff I kind of wasn't into it because it seemed goofy
