why do this to yourself Why not at least use squared ascii instead of default stretched ascii for graphics? >inb4 text looks weird that's why you can use a separate font for text and another one for graphics

>default >default >default >default It's nice being right, isn't it?

first meal prepped by hermit dorf, and it actually looks pretty tasty. usually i just see Plump helmet roast with plump helmet x 3, or tallow x 3 roasts. this one has some nice variety of food groups.
I'm mostly just memeing about the intelligence stuff, but I started with vanilla dwarf fortress, and I'm just used to it now. I've tried different colour schemes at least, but nothing else has really pleased me as much. I also sleep easier knowing I'm playing dorf bortress exactly as toady envisioned it, pure and holy. except for the mods hehe
Yeah, what the other guy said, I've never tried anything else.

ascii turns me on so good

Hi I'm new. Do dwarves require light sources while underground? I was thinking of putting up some torches to lighten up my halls but I don't know if that's possible or necessary
I did read something in the wiki about dwarves who spent like a year without seeing the sun getting massive debuffs when they finally go above ground again (for combat for example), but didn't find anything else.
Dwarves see perfectly underground on their own - torches aren't a thing either.
Christopher Howard
But then how do humans/elves see a thing when they visit me?
Hudson Gray
Dwarves don't need light because faith in Armok is all they need. When dwarves don't see the sun for a while in a long time, they start puking their guts out once on the surface, this will turn your fully equipped squad into vomiting turtles.
Liam Hall
They're not completely blind underground - they see a few tiles on all sides of them. Game doesn't take that into account for pathing either I don't think.
Asher Reed
I can't imagine it's very fun to get drunk at a pitch-black tavern as a human with dwarves dancing all around you
Thomas Hill
Atleast they're not as likely to buttrape you as bogeymen are.
Dominic James
I hope you will train your hermit big and strong until he can demand tribute from the elves.
Nicholas Morales
Is there an easy way to start a fire in fortress mode?
I want to burn up a bunch of trash, but don't want to dig all the way to magma.
Also I'd like to burn goblins to death.
Nicholas Barnes
You'd have to mod it in.
Ryan Baker
based and also true
Adrian Martin
Keep Best Ratio posting on /4xg/ where it belongs please.
Jeremiah Brown
Oh, that was my fault, I attribute the main force translation balancing to the weapon/armor mod concepts, and it was Grimlocke along with Stal who did the actual work there originally.
Cameron Sanders
>two babyfaced kids with bare girlish chins Why do we need to be reminded of this?
Nolan Butler
World user again
The user who wanted Michigan, I may have to cut it, its a lot of work personally and id rather not sit in photoshop any longer guess working to make the mountains appear how i want them too, sorry.
but for anyone else, send me some suggestions, it seems like doing anything based off an existing landscape, fictional or not, is a lot of work and im not THAT autistic. So keep it to just game generated worlds and the multitude of settings possible. If you have any requests, send them.
Waterworld type thing: enough land for multiple civs, but connected with as little land as possible, so maybe like sub-1 tile wide land bridges and stuff. Tbh, I just want a cool seaside resort fortress, with the feel of an island, but access to other civs and stuff.
Logan Fisher
waterworld style thing i may be able to do, specific land bridges? maybe, I will have to see what I can do, give me 5 minutes. any preferences on savagery/evil/beasts etc?
Landon Martin
>Fetidcontained That's a damn shitty name.
Luke Wilson
oh and temperature too
Andrew Gonzalez
>you should do X >you should do Y Why? Does it enhance gameplay in any way? Does it give me more FPS? Does it somehow fix those bugs that annoy me? No? Then it's secondary priority. Leave me alone, I've got some playing to do.
for DF to generate tropical jungles it requires a north/south pole which is annoying as that takes up a large chunk of the map. if you dont care about tropical jungles then the whole map can be warm and above.
Logan Davis
Nah, I don't care about jungles much.
Adam Scott
okay so, only one real "problem" as i see it
almost always the game will pick one of the oceans as evil and/or good, this is something i havn't figure out how to stop, if anyone knows of a way this would be great. if youre alright with that I can share it.
bottom areas of them map are hot and scorching while the rest are warm
Can you get me a medium-sized world that's mostly tundra and lone mountains with a few oases comprising the various other biomes scattered around the world? Something like pic related but less clumped-together mountains and bigger.
Mostly cold and freezing with a few warm spots for other biomes to crop up. The rest can be random I don't mind one way or the other.
James Perez
He looks like a nice gentleman
Benjamin Jones
Seriously? You can't force it any other way?
Easton Ross
How? I'm interested. I often get evil/good oceans too. What a waste.
Tyler Rodriguez
No worries, do you happen to still have the map anyway? I'd like to play it
Ethan Williams
will work on this very soon, give me 10 minutes and ill have a basic result.
i dont think so? its something to do with it making them as far away as possible from the poles, if you dont have them, doesnt make them.
i lowered the squares in Large Regions to 0 (unsure if lower numbers will do the trick too), medium should be okay? just fiddle with them, values in small and medium still gave me evil areas on land but not evil oceans.
i dont have it im afraid, sorry user
Daniel Barnes
okay so let me know what you think, give me feedback, more mountains? more tundra? more glacier?
after the property framework, which is after the first pass of myth and magic, but before the economy
Nicholas Bell
>be legendary thrower necromancer >want to get some nice shit in a vault >recluit an army of drunks because i need someone to tank while i loot >enter vault >first drunk gets oneshoted instantly >i didnt feelt nothing after seeing a dwarf die.parchment >the vaultfaggots know that im here >i revive the drunkard corpse and he stars mauling another of my drunks >after some moments all my drunks are now dead >i revive them again, fucking idiots >walk some minutes inside the vault >see one of those strong angels >also see loot >let the angel get distracted with my meat bags >now they are dead >i revive them again >it doesnt works this time >they are now blood and gore in the floor >my collection of throwing knifes wont save me this time >ohshitnigga.parchment >i die also post how your adventure ended
i want disease and medical overhaul. Cold biomes mean dwarves get flu/fevers, evil biomes can spread virus's and infections across the world, some may come in migrants and cause an outbreak at your fort, meaning your alchemist has to brew a potion (or even someone use magic to heal??)
could even have fungal infections or parasites for some weird ass creatures and fun
James Diaz
More tundra would be ideal. I want the other biomes to be like oases surrounded by ice and snow. If you could just reverse the ratio of tundra/glaciers:other biomes that would be good.
Joseph Butler
Speaking of medical overhaul, it'd be nice to be able to mandate specific surgeries, like attaching prosthesis, blinding, amputation, and so on. Imagine the possibilities!
Isaac Morales
I'd be really hyped for prosthetics, particularly if you can mod them as well to serve various functions.
Aaron Johnson
rip in piece his old youtube channel, shit was absolutely bonkers towards the end.
>be a incredibly talented swordmaster >manage to stumble across a vault and kill one angel and wear his clothing and weapon >go through the entire vault killing angels looking for the demon slab >find stairs going down >walk towards them and get knocked over the edge by a shitty angel >start falling a few z-levels without a single chance to grab onto anything >die Never seen a vault after that event
>spawn in town as a goblin peasant >decide to be a wandering hobo/cartographer >hear screaming and fighting not too far off >go investigate >wander into a temple >as soon as I enter a fully armed and armoured goblin shivs me >fucking bleed out as he is attacks a bunch of fleeing priests
To this day I have no idea what was going on in that town.
Luke Flores
Is being a strict wandering poet/minstrel character possible? Is it any fun?
Carson Baker
for sure, you can learn and create poems, dances and songs and go to random taverns and just start sperging out, now if you find that fun then thats fun.
>first time i'm actually sitting down and playing adventure mode seriously >become MOSQUITO MAN >know I'm frail as fuck, but seek VENGANCE >by pure chance, find a vampire, call him out on it, hoping that the village will jump in and kill him so I can claim my blood reward >instead, the vampire begins to slaughter all who oppose him, tearing through humans and dwarves alike like wet paper towels >flee for my life, but he's always on my heels >encounter a bandit camp, forclaim my evil deeds and become accepted in hopes of at last finding protection >am now MOSQUITO BANDITO >vampire shows up and begins to mow down folks >die of my wounds >at least the vampire didn't make it
Yes, and yes if you're into that sort of thing. I've played as peasant characters before, and it can be fun if you enjoy exploring a world where literally everything can kill you. You need to play smart to catch food, and know to pick your fights. It can get boring, but usually my guys die ages before I get tired of roving around.
Nolan Campbell
>be competent warrior >free my kingdom of nearby bandit groups and various beasts >head to vault because hey a neat slab is kept inside >fight a minor angel type, forgot its appearance >dodge automatically, slip off like a clumsy oaf >fall one z-level down through a gap in the floor >crack head open on landing >tfw didn't even deal a single hit to the angel
I can only presume the angel was completely dumbfounded by that completely undignified death.
