Assume I want for purely meme reasons to stick with WH Captain, pistols and rapier as Saltz. How viable is this build?

rapier is fine (but falchion is better), pistols are strictly for boss killing though
your role is support primarily focused on boss killing, so save your active and weave around the edges of fights and take advantage of your infinite light blocking

Does the auxiliary pistol get better as you rank up? It's just pointless at the moment as it takes several shots to kill a basic rat.

you're ignoring elf's headshot damage talent and the fact that she has both infinite ammo so having to double tap and enemy isn't even an issue and that her active has a cooldown of about 20 seconds.

the most you can use it for is snapshot interrupts
rapier is still better than flail, but yeah man, falchion is objectively better by every measure that counts, and the gap keeps growing as you increase the difficulty level

Does it even work? I've had a few saying "Did you enjoy extra stamina?" and I haven't noticed anything.
Also: Drakegun did a headshot tick sound up to 2 patches ago and can roll "stamina on headshot" but now they removed it and explained it can't headshot. The trait is still there though. Wew.
That's a good point. I guess I just miss being able to just shoot shit all the time and leap in to stab something in the face every so often. I have a feeling my VH1 build (which was what I most enjoyed in 1) simply does not exist any more.

curse res and + health, they can only run on one piece each and are pretty fucking strong, and even better together
30% curse + 15-20% health is 1 or 2 extra hits on legend, thats huge

the default move shoots a single shot that does around 140% of a pistol shot and penetrates armor right where you're aiming and 6 shots that do around 70% damage and don't penetrate armor in a cone around it. the double shot talent makes it shoot 2 of the main hits but none of the cone hits, and the buckshot talent makes it shoot double the cone hits but no big hits.
I'm not sure if you are implying health and curse can be on the same item but they cannot. Curse resist is only on trinket and health is only on necklaces.

it's purely personal preference
higher value means more peripheral vision, but everything will appear smaller and therefore technically more difficult to hit, especially with ranged weapons

You get consistent crits with beam now.
Before, you had to fish to get them and then they would be constant. If you didnt know to fish, you probably spent a lot of your time with beam getting no crits.
