is it reasonably easy to find duels in cpma? on top of that, is it possible to regularly find players who wouldn't stomp a novice (I can move and aim, but that's about it, been a ca shitter for too long) to absolute shit?

the hitbox on ranger's orb both for easy damage and telefrags was already getting questionable (many people were already getting very good at landing them)
but now that everyone is so slow in combat, it's trivial to land high damage orbs or shubslayers. definitely needs to be looked at if they plan on keeping the game megaslow.

honestly i feel more optimistic about the future of UT4 after fortnite's success.
so i played everquest 2 for fucking years, and the success of eq2 allowed SoE (an even shittier company than epic) to fund the development of multiple games/mmos, some of which were quite experimental and not developed to be 'blockbusters' in the genre inherently. so it is possible (even if unlikely) that fortnite's massive success will allow epic to pour money into UT4 and properly finish it, not necessarily caring or relying on it being a big moneymaker.

People focusing on the "speed" factor are missing the point. Even if she was "faster" now (which she isn't), her new movement is not as "agile" if that makes sense The old skating was useful in far more situations, and far more usable in combat She needed a nerf of some kind(a light's hitbox with Ranger's stack? Give me a break), but I don't know if they went in a good direction. I think they could have maybe even kept her at 125HP to go with this movement change. She just feels weird and a wonky pick (99% of my playtime is Duel, so take that as you may)

Relatively unexperienced player here, remember enjoying UT 2004 and recently played a bit of Quake Live and was not completely worthless. What games are still alive? I played QL at like 2am so maybe that's the problem, but I still thought it would have more players than it had. There's less than 100 on right now. UT4 seems dead, QC is getting zero hype and apparently currently dead, Reflex is dead, what is there? Doom 4? Should I just play some retro SP FPS instead?
For MP, both Quake Live and Champions are the less dead.
For SP, your choice.

You can camp in Duel under certain circumstances. Depending on the map it can even happen often If you're waiting for a major pickup to spawn, instead of just waiting out in the open like a retard, you'll probably want to hold an angle with the Rail and so on Same applies to prediction an opponent transition and waiting on a perch with RL for free damage. Common in Sarnath in the Rail room, nabbing people going for Heavy
