Any competition at all would make them shape the fuck up. GGG would shit their pants over a serious competitor threatening to reduce mtx sales or their whales jumping over.
Dylan Sullivan
Charan was right wtf I love dogs now
Justin Rogers
wHY IS THERE HARDLY ANY pOe PORN
Christian Morales
competitors are dead in the water unless they understand game design and not creating dressed up cookie clicker simulators. none of you will want to admit it but poe has succeeded only because ggg come from principled fundamentals towards game design, if you read any single development manifesto from them and/or if you're able to parse the significance of quantified, weighted affixes
though to be fair, it really is hard to develop a game like PoE - in terms of 3D assets, I'm sure the coding would be relatively easy for a codemonkey, but game assets like sound, models and all that are more tedious
Thanks for the good feedback in this thread. We understand there were issues with Bestiary and we are doing our best to fix them and also to make sure the next league does not have the same problems. Actions speak louder than words, so our primary goal was to get the league improved as soon as possible, then show that the next one is ready and finished early while also being better in every possible way.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting in this thread is about the MTX news. Previously, we had a news post each NZ workday but sometimes the news post was entirely dedicated to new MTX. People complained that it wasn't real news, so we decided to split it out so that MTX posts are separate and don't count as the one news article per day. This drew criticism and we're still trying to work out how to proceed on that front.
Any suggestions? As people have pointed out, the quality and quantity of micros does not have any bearing on our league releases (and only helps give them more resources). What do you feel the best way is to make sure that micros get enough of a spotlight so that we can keep improving the game while also not being in-your-face and annoying to see advertised?
this no longer applies, also it's probably gay everyone knows the most 'efficient' skill tree shit already if they're veterans or not retarded
gear affixes are also complete bullshit and they're why rares fucking suck - because an ilvl84 armor can still roll the lowest tier affix in the first place. It doesn't matter if the stat itself isn't needed but rolls on rares are 9/10 fucking worthless, and then you need another GOOD roll to make an item half-decent, then another GOOD roll to make it actually worth using. This is like a 7/49 lottery for an item.
Luis Walker
>steam workshop modelers can make entire dota item sets in a weekend >xixixi can't even make unique art for some of the most popular items in the game after 3 years
Monster design is also time-consuming. Even if you use curves like Path of Exile and Torchlight to define monster stats you still have to define health, exp, speed, resistances, damage, AI, etc etc for every individual monster in the game
Thomas Lopez
>play since a start of the league >lvl 95 - 6l starforge, 2 terminus est, shavronne's wraps >10+ elder kills with shaper alive and 0 watcher's eyes >2 depths and 0 liches >2 spirit beasts
Glad they added all that content to main game.
Easton Robinson
To be totally honest, I'm enjoying Bestiary for the most part. I only really have 2 complaints: >Red Beasts They have an insane amount of HP that's more than the Map boss in many cases and the only ones anyone wants are ridiculously rare. They learned nothing from Abyss and gated the only end-game behind a really bad singular RNG roll. >Beastcrafting 99% of it is worthless trash. At least give me Portal recipes that open a Dread Thicket/Submerged Passage-like zone, etc. filled with each of the 4 Mob types with guaranteed Yellows and a Red with zone level based on the major mob. youtube.com/watch?v=VQpc7NYAYME >Turns the weapon red for some reason and adds a shitty water splash >$18 Pffaahaha. It's outright worse than the one from the 3.0 Support Pack's 2nd tier.
Adrian Foster
My dumb opinion but I don't think skill trees should be balanced any way at all around efficiency. Players will take the most efficient things, that's obvious. So how should a skill tree be designed with that in mind? They should just be designed to be "generic" and to make sense. You shouldn't make every player path to one part of the tree because it's efficient (fuck Scion life wheel). They should path to it because it's there and it's what they need. An example would be something like Slayer going to RT or a Scorching Ray Trickster pathing to those burning nodes at Witch.
Life nodes should be absolutely scattered around the map, there should obviously be more or more effective life nodes in the Marauder like 6% - but if they were scattered, it would always be more effective to just take the nearest life nodes than to path all the way to the more slightly effective ones because it'd be innefficient. Meanwhile Scion life cluster is so fucking efficient nearly everyone takes it unless they path along the outter travel nodes and touch Duelist's Golem Blood.
also FUCK scions big futa life cock
Nathan Rodriguez
>more like only game. ggg seriously needs some competitors.
wolcen, torchlight (2), diablo 3, grim dawn poe btfo all of them, to the point where they arent even considered serious competition anymore lmao
Gabriel Howard
How much are armor set mtxs if they go on sale? 300?
Jackson Adams
I mean, those are just numbers. Even a player with no developing skills could make his own balance if he gave the developers the numbers to punch in over time.
Hunter Green
Fucking FINALLY I can buy the Colossus Sword.
Tyler Hill
>wolcen Lol. >torchlight (2) Ultra lel. >diablo 3 A fair point. >grim dawn A meh point. Player retention isn't particularly high. Depends on the set, but average is around $310-$340.
GGG hate fun and don't want the player base to go from loot explosions to fucking nothing when the regular league starts after Mayhem
Colton Hernandez
why are you faggots crying its basically a full game for free and only shit you could pay for is mtx and stashes but you can complete the game without them also compare the amount of content to any other free games or even paid ones like look at fucking warframe all they do is release reskins of stuff that you have to grind for doing same shit over and over or buy for real money the only good thing that theyve implemented is trading prime parts for plat with other players and they have decent sales for plat but other than that game has barely any content and its locked behind doing same shit for hundred of hours
Landon White
>decide to level one of my Oni-Goroshi farmers before I sell it >use the Tabula, Goldrim, Wanderlust, Araku Tiki, Lochtonial Caress, and Blackhearts I got from killing Hillock a billion times
exactly. and that is the fate that awaits any future would-be competition, too. unless it is literally diablo 4, it wont manage to make a dent in poe's dominance. poe is simply too big by now. nobody can compete with 10 acts plus the insane amount of endgame shit this game has to offer now.
Andrew Reyes
>amount of content
you mean 5 acts, 5 rehashed acts and then an end-game that's rehashed shit with RNG gated content with absurd fine-tuned difficulty - which most people will never see, do or just plain ignore
or are you talking about master rotations on 820 to do vorici, selling your exalt orbs for chaos to buy gear, grinding chaos, selling your shitty vendor rares or uniques, or autistically grinding lab for currency and loot?
Kevin Lopez
>This is why Chris made the "update" post LOL
Dylan Rodriguez
Hold down M2 is game content lmao
Also GGG are the biggest video game jews I have ever seen. They're stuff is so stupidly priced it's obvious they're targeting the whales.
Luke Ward
>when D3 encourages multiple skill use more than PoE granted its because literally every other skill is just use-on-cooldown shit
Aaron Price
people cry because of entitlement and because if the modern gamer isn't coddled by patch cycles that promise instant gratification they LITERALLY are plagued by existential anxiety
Jordan Gutierrez
Remember when GGG put in new leveling gear that was neither that useful for leveling nor dropped all that often
you're right, I would actually be glad if we had 10 more leagues exactly like Talisman and Bestiary. Wouldn't you?
GGG barely adds uniques anymore at all, the vast majority are fated uniques where they change 1 line and call it a new item
Carter Jackson
>instant gratification On the other hand GGG just adds content that no one will ever encounter after temporary league's end instead of fixing their existing content that player actually deal with every time they log in.
Brody Reyes
Name a game which has tried to make cooldown based skills really powerful and necessary to the game while interesting to use.
>they nerfed the fuck out of vaal skills
Aiden Walker
At least you saw multiple talisman mobs per map. And launch bonespire was fucking hilarious.
Benjamin Davis
Races were already confirmed for near the end of the league and after the backlash to this league I can only expect next league will be a mob fiesta with lootsplosions where every boss drops a +1 map and an alchemy orb.
They also decided to fuck the game when they wanted to balance around """"economy"""" instead of the actual game.
Joseph Hernandez
Rusty Hearts. They shut down a year and a half after release because the devs went bankrupt
Cooper Brooks
well you could compare it to diablo 2 which had only 5 acts copy pasted 3 times 1 of them was a dlc that you also had to buy and all you did was farm baal id say poe has much more endgame content than other games but i might be wrong
Carter Morales
I like fated uniques tbqh, im still waiting for my Fated Empire's Grasp
Adam Watson
so like in any other isometric arpg?
Justin Morgan
realistically how would you design end-game content for an ARPG? I'm thinking they'd be similar to raids or even lab with obviously getting to the boss fight after progressing through several areas
or Wolcen with it's side-content "Arena" where you have to defeat fixed amount or kind of enemies to prove your ability
another thing is Monster Hunters Arena where you have to use premade sets of gear and items to win of course
Henry Watson
The issue isn't that they're unpopular, it's that they're weak. >Wolcen It's not even done and from what I've heard and seen, looks and plays like shit. Torchlight 1 is nice for a playthrough or 2, but Torchlight 2 is just mediocre garbage. It's not even an issue of content, but an issue of enjoying it. In Path of Exile, I can play a Sunder/Cyclone/Blade Flurry Gladiator with mostly the same tree every time and have fun every time. In Torchlight 2, every single damn build feels like shit for various reasons on top of the content not being particularly enjoyable. On top of shit balance between classes, mind. I don't follow. Chris' comments on the League mechanics were more the opposite of what I said. >We aren't upping Legendary Beast spawns and instead making Yellows worth fighting (still won't be) >More recipes (not related to getting more Legendary Beasts) are coming as well
you can make smug shitposts all you want, but at the end of the day, no other game in the genre even comes close to the sheer amount of content poe offers.
like yeah, you can be a smug bitch about 3.0 and act like >haha 6 new acts my ass most of them are just rehashes lmaooo but when you compare it to other games, you see shit like diablo where they charged full expansion price for just one additional act and the crusader, and another $20 for just the necromancer.
most of you are so garbage at this game desu. it's these shortcomings and that you're being challenged that is the source of your frustation, not merely (self-imposed) obstacles in the game itself (which other people are clearly succeeding at this league as much as literally any other, so what, exactly and being honest, is stopping you from doing just as good?)
Daniel Campbell
Marvel Heroes has raids and it works to a degree, i'd like that in the game. But I think it would mostly be how PoE does it with maps and solo end game bosses.
Personally, I thought Shaper/Elder was going to be the introduction of D3 style Greater Rifts using the map system. Something like Shaper corrupts a map, you beat that map, which pushes his corruption to another map but that corruption is like Corruption Level 2 and then you keep doing that as it jumps from map to map to map making them harder and harder and rewarding you with more quantity, rarity, and mob density.
Nicholas Gray
I don't play Diablo so shut the fuck up retard. If we want to compare it to competent games look at any stupid MMO and the amount of content they have is still more than PoE and teases loot better - the newfags and redditors are just realizing it.
Camden Barnes
poe.trade/search/hiurigokoaraha Retard. Reflection is in, it's just about as rare as a damned Mirror. Coward's Trial is now a permanent side area one can access, but with more varied waves and such.
>no no dont compare it to similar games >here compare it to this whole different genre instead
you are retarded might as well compare it to street fighter or counter strike and complain that poe doesnt have fast paced high skill combat like those games do lmao
Just an approximation, my dude. Point is, it's really, really rare. >There were people theorycrafting builds that would use this thing prior to 3.2's drop
Oliver Clark
something still has to be wrong with the trade site or drops because I refuse to believe this shield that is literally only good for totem users and even then not some nutso mirror worthy shield to be several times rarer than a mirror itself
Jackson Martin
I think in terms of actual content POE does it pretty much perfectly - random areas to grind in with setpiece encounters like Atziri and unique maps to do when you're comfortable. The only problem with POE's implementation is that, for the most part, the limiting factor is your drop RNG instead of your character. If you could attempt the various raid-style dungeons and bosses whenever you wanted and guarantee that the maps you're running are relevant level instead of being 20 levels under your character then the endgame would be a lot more compelling, as it would be more about character development than "Oh boy a guardian map, now I get to spend 10 minutes doing something fun before it's back to t10 maps"
Jonathan Clark
True. Guess I'll just dont use any eye mtx until something decent comes out. Shits way to expensive. Had it for a while. Makes Spectral Throw look pretty damn good.
Christian Reed
That's probably the only time I've ever seen the bestiary wings not look out of place and disgusting, so good job with that I guess.
Bentley Johnson
It's prophecy was disabled because it's OpieOP Pogchamp it's getting changed to immune to curses because of self flagellation/soul mantle
Joseph White
>It's prophecy was disabled Surely you can back up such a claim.
like a dozen dropped before day 2 none have dropped since
Zachary Morgan
Surely you can back up such a claim.
Adrian Myers
its a fated unique the prophecy for it is probably super rare, and since only very few players actually roll prophecies at all, theres not a lot of them to go around
>The only problem with POE's implementation is that, for the most part, the limiting factor is your drop RNG instead of your character.
if the limiting factor was character strength then everybody would blow through the entire game within a week after league start lmao
Xavier Carter
This isn't 2012, though. There's a laundry list of tricks to sustain and some off-meta stuff I've never even seen mentioned around here to sustain. If you manage your resources and don't expect returns from a minimal base, it's difficult NOT to sustain unless you're doing literal white maps.
the worst part of bestiary isn't its launch, it's that it will eventually be rolled into the core with no improvements whatsoever
Aiden Martinez
they put so much effort into menagerie and the bestiary book, you fucking know this shit's getting added
Colton Hall
Yep. >For the next 4 or 5 Leagues, completing the Bestiary will probably be a Challenge
Dylan Thompson
>tfw have literally not found a single unique or rare worth selling in a week
Parker Parker
prophecy all over again >pale council >implying anyone cares about running prophecy chains
also just like prophecy, it bestiary will eventually get left in the dust, no new recipes or interesting features to bring it up to date - eventually
prophecy barely got changed - only with more fated uniques, which are obviously really rare again
Jordan James
>Forgetting Pale Council had its loot tabled shuffled around to fit the Pale Council set and had its old shit moved to the Chain capstones >Forgetting that even Ambush's Strongboxes had the "Contains additional Silver Coins" mod added to their pool
Isaiah Hill
that's not the point people don't fucking do their quests unless they're autistic or new more silver coins is nothing when 9/10 prophecies are shit
Adam Jenkins
are people just pricefixing chromes? WHY ARENT THEY FUCKING SELLING TO ME its 10 chaos fuckign nigger get out of your map
Gavin Johnson
There should have been a set for every armour type. Pure Armore: Crab Armour/Evasion: Bear Evasion: Cat Evasion/Es: Spider Es: Owl Armour/Es: Toad
Alexander Garcia
And Arm/Eva/ES: Dragon
Daniel Green
That would be a cool idea. Like an uber boss if you do all the beastiary shit.
Bentley Martinez
>Wind ripper and 5 link prophecy at same time. Not sure if this is a sign or just some cash.
Ethan Reyes
2h Int ranged weapon when
Aiden Davis
and you needed all beasts captured to use in a beastcraft to summon a portal to it
the ultimate RNG gated boss
Austin Young
>Manage to kill all 6 other Spirit Beasts in Einhar's midget arena >Get to fight the Dragon Agreed. Would also be an excuse to make the Legendary Beasts to access the others less rare, since you would need literally all of them. I'll say it once, I'll say it again. >Giant's Wand, Eclipse Staff >Various Added Flat/% Phys mods >Whatever else >And the mod, "Counts as a Wand"
Ayden Gonzalez
I don't think the system as it currently is can make an item function like another item. They can make it count as another item but the staff wouldn't be ranged. They would just make a wand that would have "uses both hands" instead
Oliver Roberts
I was thinking more along the lines of a long "Hidden" quest chain, where you have to complete the beastiary and so forth. But that would probably be to autistic.
Dylan Perry
That's something they'd have an Expansion for. And it'd be clearly laid out more or less, sadly. Hell, I'd be totally happy with an expansion that "brought old content up to date" and balanced it all.
>Hell, I'd be totally happy with an expansion that "brought old content up to date" and balanced it all. The playerbase needs to give up on this. They will never do a massive overhaul of old stuff ever again. At best, they will introduce a shit load of threshold jewels, fated prophecies, and maybe a new difficulty version of old bosses as a way to pitch "new content" which has a higher effect on player retention and growth
Isaac Nguyen
Hidden stuff wouldn't stay that way anyways. Datamining isnt as rampant in PoE as it is in other games, but as soon as someone finds out about something hidden it is all over reddit and people flock to it.
Daniel Gray
>tfw sitting on easily over 8ex of currency >still using gear worth mostly 4c and 20c rings >6link weapon and top enchant helm though
