I don't see the big deal, people love agent locke so 343 is just making it clear this will be about CHIEF not fan-favorite Locke. They don't want to be setting anyone up for disappointment.

Some people adhere to a rumor/theory that all of that is still going to happen in some form and that the current guardians/forerunner stuff is filler-lite that will be used by ONI as an excuse to ramp up Spartan 4 production and claim full control of the galaxy which was their pre-covenant directive.

Alright guys, you get to "design" the new Halo game. Here's the catch, you only get to pick one aspect from each halo game to fill all requirements. You can only choose one game once. It is assumed that the graphics and engine will be as modern as it gets.

My friend who works at 343 said that for Halo 6 they initially decided to kill both Halsey and Chief off but scrapped that decision. Even though this is the end of Chief's story, he will NOT die. They're gonna try to pull a new Halo 3 ending where Chief is going to Path Kethona in order to find the forerunners there. Also, Locke is not returning. In fact, he's only mentionned once as doing some ONI stuff. The main story will focus on Arby and the Chief actually, who try to get to the Ark before Cortana, who they think, wants to use the Halo array as a blackmail tool for the UNSC, that's why she intercepted the new halo at the end of Halo Wars 2.
There will be coop characters but no squad mode : Chief (main) Arby (second) Buck*(third) Palmer**(third) Kelly***(third) Romeo*(Fourth) Jun**(Fourth) Linda***(Fourth)
In the game, Fred is sometimes present as an npc but not playable, he serves as an advisor for chief sometimes. * dependant on mission A LOT hapens in the campaign. The game starts about 3 years after the rise of the Created. The first scene actually starts on Sanghelios, which has became a stronghold for those who resist the Created. Reach also appears at one point in the game, Chief goes there with Arby, Halsey and Blue Team to recover expirmental equipment that was being developed. Halsey makes an eulogy to Noble 6 there. A fun mission, from what he said, is when at one point Romeo and Buck join Chief to help him deliver a payload into the Created Network which would allow to disconnect them from the domain. Romeo and Buck have some of the best dialogue.
343 has a guy from Microsoft's board of director to oversee their work apparently since Halo 5. The overseer apparently changed things in Halo Wars 2 and basically told 343 for most stuff (primarily design, story and characters) don't touch it if it ain't broken. Halo Wars 2 was going to be much more different before the giy came in. It was supposed to be a mess originally
