South east asian here, them being okay doesn't have anything to do with being progressive, it just doesn't clash with our beliefs and norms like in the west did with Christianity, so people don't care, also, ladyboy is partly a traditional thing here, with many dancers mostly composed of them since medieval era
overall we're still very conservative, try to mock the king and you get jail time, also I think its because drugs has been very rampant problem here, so people don't care anymore as long as it solved, some leaders here have constant fear that drugs are pushed here to bring the country down like what British do to Chinese during Opium war
