Why was Russia beaten so hard ?

...

These sort of disastrous defeats always baffle me. If both armies are somewhat similar in technolgy and numbers, how can one side have such shit, cowardly or utterly incompetent men so as to lose thousands while the other side loses dozens or hundreds?

>japanese have torpedo superiority
hmmmmmm

>Japan: 89 ships
>Russia: 27 ships

because battles aren't fought in a vacuum. Tactics/positioning plays a part just as much as technology.

At Tsushima, the Russian fleet was trying to cross a narrow strait under the cover of night, they were spotted by Japanese watchmen and alerted the fleet, who surrounded the Russians on all sides.

In classic battles, it's usually who had the most advantageous terrain would determine the winner. Hills, rivers, forests, all determined how the battle was fought.

When your army is being pressed from 3 sides or is surrounded in a Stalingrad-type siege, superior technology means much less than superior tactics.

>6 disarmed

That seems oddly specific. Like they just had their weapons taken away and then where let go.

...

Anyone have that screencap detailing the lead up to Tsushima?

They're talking about ships, not individual soldiers.

>implying torpedo boats and destroyers are equivalent to a battleship

baffles me that morons like you remember to breathe

The eternal Ottoman strikes again

Because they were hit with a surprise attack halfway across the world from their major military assets and had no quick way of transporting men & material to the decisive front. Also Japan also had one of the top navies in the world whereas Russia has never been a great sea power. They didn't even have a navy until Peter the Great built one from scratch in the 18th century. After he was gone the driving force behind their naval establishment was lost. None of the other Russian Tsars had a hardon for naval power like he did.

Anyway, the tide was turning towards Russia's favor by the end of the war, not on the seas obviously, but on land their irresistible weight of arms was overbearing the Japanese who were stretching thin.

>None of the other Russian Tsars had a hardon for naval power like he did.
Damn, just imagine how fucking terrifying would Russia have been as a strong naval power.

I dunno, they would have run into a lot of problems. Their navy would also be split between several different bodies of water that means they'd never had a preponderance of power against the most powerful rival in that theater, except maybe in the Black Sea, but a navy there is entirely bottled up unless you have control of the Bosphorus straight, which they never did.

Like, Britain would always be able to keep their navy bottled up in the Baltic sea on the Atlantic side, and in the Pacific it's so far away from their industrial & population centers that it almost doesn't make sense to make a huge navy there.

can someone post japanese soldier getting into russian one?

tsar didn't focus on the nips much. not to mention the japs outnumbered them in most battles

Because war isn't fought like X +2 - X +1 = 1.

The truth is that if you have a small strategic and tactical advantage, you will be routing, raping, and pillaging the enemy.

...

>>implying torpedo boats and destroyers are equivalent to a battleship
>baffles me that morons like you remember to breathe

>implying that 3 midgets with pistols immediately surrounding a single man with a shotgun isn't going to obviously play out in favor of the numerically advantaged midgets

baffles me that autists like you are allowed to use the Internet to spread autism

You DO realize that torpedoes are dangerous as fuck whether they come from a 500 pound skiff or a 5000 ton cruiser right?

Like, torpedoes always either cripple or outright sink a ship they hit most of the time. Torpedo boats were the primary reason the Allies never just sat their cruisers offshore of Europe and pounded everything on the coast line to smithereens. That and land based aircraft, the most terrifying of which would have been surprise surprise, torpedo bombers.

How is this The btfo? This was overkill. Look at the number of cruisers and destroyers they had, Jesus. A nation that's literally a bunch of desendants of Chinese people who swam across the ocean to their home and dedicate their existence to marine activities and eating fish with every meal beat the least developed major power who has always had a shit navy. Gg nips

Like seriously, have you ever heard of Taffy 3?
The USS Johnson? The destroyer that sunk a heavy cruiser because they blew the bow off it with a suicidal torpedo charge?
The USS Samuel B. Roberts, the Destroyer Escort (an "armored" skiff) that fought like a Battleship that managed to cripple another heavy cruiser 50 times her weight with a torpedo hit.

This post is so fucking stupid it's infuriating. All boats can sink, moron. And a torpedo boat is cheap and can sink a battleship no matter how many big boy guns it has. This is basic logic and why we don't build battleships anymore.

This is a really good troll post or you need to castrate yourself because you shouldn't reproduce. Either way I'm mad.

The original and arguably the biggest

...

Look at this. This is what happens when battleships and cruisers engage ships armed with torpedoes at close range.

Gotcha lad

When did Japs go from sabers-and-trumpets western-style military to full-blown muh honorabru katana charges?

>When did Japs go from sabers-and-trumpets western-style military to full-blown muh honorabru katana charges?
During the rise of their fascist junta in the 20's.

...

i love that artstyle but i'm pretty sure that's not how wars were won

>utterly destroy your enemies
>lose the war anyway
Jesus Carthage get it together.

I'd say the decisive factor in that engagement was absolutely pathetic targeting by the Japanese gunners.

Rome got Hannibal back, don't worry

Somewhat.
The main issue was the spotty seasonal rain heavily obscuring visibility and them mistakenly believing they were engaging capital ships. They scored tons of hits but were using shells designed to penetrate armor that the Taffy taskforce lacked. The "tin can" escort carriers were riddled with holes from shells that passed through them without exploding.
There was also the fact that the destroyers laid out a smokescreen which the Roberts at least used to close within torpedo range unseen, and that by the time it was fired upon the ship it was attacking could not depress its guns to hit it.
It was also destroying its own engines for a temporary boost in speed.

A very large part of the success the Americans had was ineptitude on the part of the Japanese, but even then the only reason they survived to exploit the confusion was that ships full of brave men men charged into certain death attacking capital ships.
With two heavy cruisers knocked out of the battle almost immediately and the fleet in disarray due to evasive maneuvers to avoid torpedoes the Japanese mistook the handful of picket ships for a full blown fleet, and this was only further believed to be the case when the aircraft from Taffy 1 and 2 arrived and the Japanese found themselves under heavy attack from 400 planes total. Almost the amount of aircraft that 5 fleet carriers had. Albeit most of the aircraft being older and most certainly not equipped for anti ship duty.

The decisive factor in that battle was American initiative. Had they not launched an immediate attack into a force that outmatched them a hundred times over on paper the entire task force would have been sunk and the invasion annihilated.

well said, one of the escort carriers involved in that battle was named after my hometown

The Russians outnumbered and outgunned the Japanese at every major battle except Port Arthur. Namely Mukden, Liaoyang, and Shaho. They still lost every single time.

kek, I never realized it was the hall. Fucking Versailles.

Stop, boner. Tfw you desire to be raped by Japanese warrior.

>when you and the lads fuck up so badly that your country disintegrates before the battle is even over

...

>inb4 Hannibal did not look like a southern spaniard

But the loses from both sides are almost the same

shitalians will still call it a great victory because they got btfo for most of the war

>lose battles
>win the war
>somehow this means you lost
Lmao get a load of this salty kraut

who are you quoting?

>kingdom of numidia

They really wuz kangz

>AHDF strikes again!

>outnumbered the enemy, had access to ships designed by people that actually knew what they're doing, were not exhausted by traveling halfway across the world (including much glorious events as losing a fight against bunch of unarmed english fishing boats and malaria outbreak)

Honestly there was no way that Japan could had lost that battle.

Blame Scipio, without him the roman generals would've just kept running headfirst into Hannibal and keep getting mowed down as shown.

>37,000 Dead and Wounded combined for Italy

>35,000 dead. 100,000 wounded, 300,000 captured for AH

That's a loss ratio of almost 12:1 broski

Bullshit. Scipio won the African war, yes. However Fabius was drilling screws into Hannibal's army before that, and it was only because the Senate was too dumb to see why the war was suddenly changing that he was recalled.

I think he was talking about the whole front, which had only a 1:1.1 ratio in favor of Italy.

Soviet-Japanese war of 1945

600,000 Japs surrendered like little bitches, so much for that "never surrender" warrior culture.

That POW figure dishonestly refers to Japanese POWs held after the end of the war as being captured during this operation, when in actuality the Kwantung Army was very much intact. They surrendered like a week after their emperor announced the surrender of the nation.

Prior to that point the Soviets had captured very few POWs in their engagements with the Japanese.

Honesty has never been a Japanese virtue.

Actually Russia and Japan never had an armistice or made peace.

Yes, but Hirohito still announced the total surrender of the Empire of Japan and all forces in the emprie. The Kwantung Army surrendered a week later.

You can literally go through the wikipedia and check the numbers. Nips outnumbered them in most battles and even then the Russians didn't have that significant of an advantage in numbers. It's a rather irrelevant point tho, because Russian failure was mostly due to leadership incompetence. Rip makarov.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Didgori

I'm to lazy to crop the image

>Nips outnumbered them in most battles

Not Mukden, Liaoyang, and Shaho, i.e. all the ones that actually mattered besides Port Arthur. The Russians had the advantage in both numbers of men and numbers of guns in all these battles.

>200,000 Seljuks

lol yeah right.

That's my bad, I've only really studied the Punic wars at a glance, and i'm not too knowledgeable of things before the middle ages.

I got the two mixed up, i thought Scipio was the appointed dictator not Fabius. My mistake

U Mahdist?

...

The funniest thing about this is that it appears consensual. It's like they spotted each other across the trench one morning and later that day, during a skirmish, crept off for a quick bumming.

"Scoreboard"

t. Scipio Africanus

>80 war elephants

Even with 80 fucking war elephants.

Cross worshippers got BTFO'd so hard, they never got back the Levant, North Africa and Anatolia ever again.

Meanwhile, in traditional non-western influenced Japanese naval warfare...

Elephants were a meme and the Romans knew how to handle them without any problems after Pyrrhus.

Never happened.

t. lindybeige

Meanwhile, in traditional non-western influenced Japanese naval warfare...

Right, lol. I bet Hannibal though he was top shit when they march out the elephants. So how did the Romans handle them?

The elephants were fucking worthless. They stampeded in every which direction and ravaged Hannibal's left flank at the very beginning of the battle before being slaughtered by the Romans.

Someone post that meme with Hannibal and his fucking elephants again.

>never got back the Levant, North Africa and Anatolia ever again.
>636 CE

Except where the Byzantines weren't run out of Anatolia until 1300

Except when Jerusalem and the entire Levant were ruled by crusader states for 200 years

Except when France, Britain and Italy colonized Algeria, Egypt, and Libya

Open up "lanes" in their lines which the elephants would funnel into because least resistance, then proceed to stab the shit out of them. Also its easy to make them panic which got a number of them to run back into Hannibal's lines.

>Elephants were a meme
Daily reminder nobody in the Mediterranean deployed them properly.
>Hellenics learn of Elephant warfare from Poos.
>NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED SUPPORT INFANTRY.
>LOL JUST DEPLOY THEM LIKE CAVALRY COS IS BIG AND STRONG AND IS EYES AFLAMING GLOW.

TBF for the Japs they were barely above abbo tier at that point.

Nobody mentioned the Battle of the Golden Spurs yet?

>disappoint

Now are those areas still under western rule, save of Israel? The former Roman territories are Muslim forever.

...

*except for Israel

>TBF for the Japs they were barely above abbo tier at that point.
Not really, they were already hardcore back then, fresh from the anti-barbarian wars in Northern Japan.

But the wars in Japan were pretty oogabooga yeah.

The lack of afros here just drags man.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Adwa

You said "never again" and he named that a) one of them wasn't taken by muslims until 600 years later and others were taken back like twice
But by all means move them goalposts

Obvious exaggurated skirmish.

lol Nasser died of shame
