Ah yes, The Barbary slave trade

Ah yes, The Barbary slave trade.

Why is that this subject is seemingly very much ignored in the West?

Apparently it was legal to kill Turks in Iceland up to the 70's after they abolished the law.

Cause of Barbary corsairs loyal to the Ottoman empire raiding and taking locals as slaves.

most people tend to study and know much more about their own nation's history, which is why there is a great deal more known about the atlantic save trade by the layman in the west.

If, for example, you asked a Tunisian and an Englishman to tell you about the history of slavery I'm sure they would each focus on different things.

Now then, what would you like to discuss about the barbary slave trade?

The Barbary corsairs raided Iceland?!

Fuck that's cool.

yes, look up the "turkish raids" or tyrkjaránið

They were led by a Dutch pirate.

>Barbary Corsairs
>raided Iceland
>led by a Dutch pirate.

This should be a movie, like holy shit.

>current year
>movie about muslims enslaving and selling white people on the Ottoman black market
sure, they were led by a dutch guy, but come on now

So apparently the slavery part was secondary to actually just being paid larger ransoms from various countries.

>only bad when people I don't like do it :^)

>Norsemen getting vikinged themselves.

Pure pottery

I think it would trigger every demographic possible.

>Except history guys like us I guess.

We don't ignore it. We teach it in our middle school history classes. Specifically, we teach that we were the first ones to tell the Barbary pirates to fuck off and kick their shit in instead of paying the ransom.

It should be a porno. We need a lot more history themed porn films.

Because slavery was invented white Americans that were prejudiced against black people and it was a VERY BAD THING.

The same reason East European serfdom or Manchu oppression of the Han are ignored in the West - it didn't much matter in either the grand scheme of things or the overall national histories of individual Western nations outside of very specific wars and events.

We kicked their asses later on too
Keep your friends close but your betrayals closer

Are there any good books about this or the time period that talk about it?

>hey I'll stop attacking you if you pay me
>ok
>lol I lied
>FUCK YOU IM INVADING
And so started a time honored American tradition of kicking people's teeth in halfway around the world.

goes against the planted agenda by the elites that all of europeans colonies and lands should be flooded by thirld worlders due to collective guilt

And this user paints the Us view on ransom and despite many of my issues with America their view on ransoms is the best.

Compare that to say Italy's ransom negotiations.

Is it ignored though? The Barbary Wars are the foundation legend of the US Marine Corps and Barbary piracy is also part of the history of the British Royal Navy. I've hardly done any reading on the subject and I'm aware of this, doubtless other affected countries would have their own stories. With a loaded question like that you wouldn't just be dishonestly fishing for replies like would you? :^)

White people are always the opressors, and brown people are the opressed. The Barbary slave trade doesn't fit the narrative.

They weren't enslaved for being white though

It's certainly the sexiest slave trade. Who wouldn't want to be an Ottoman sultan with sex slaves from across Europe?

>was well known in its time
>starts to be forgotten as time goes on
>is now purposefully ignored since this topic is "politcally incorrect"

No one is going to start talking about how muslim pirates raided and enslaved europeans because it fucks up the evil white oppressor narrative

I'm sick of this whole SJW VS anti-SJW bullshit that is obligatory in these kinds of threads at this point.

Maybe we can talk about the Circassian and slavic slaves from the black sea area at the same time and sold to other people in the Mediterranean?

But I guess white people buying other white people doesn't count?

>I'm sick of this whole SJW VS anti-SJW bullshi

>But I guess white people buying other white people doesn't count?

lol

Aren't there examples of republican city-states forming along the North-African coast?

To be honest, those societies sound like a more interesting topic that the slavers themselves.

Hell I would settle for being a provincial bey with a harem of ukrainians and russians.

Since when were circassians white, those were Muslims if I ever saw one.

Most people are more concerned about their own history and struggle, which is totally understandable. Yet countries of the West are populated by different people each with their own different history.

The issue with ignorance from the West occurs when a section of a populous want their struggle and history to be prioritised over others. This is somewhat understandable - the Atlantic slave trade was a more important part of US history than the Barbary slave trade. However, this creates ignorance overall, with people pushing for more education on a slave trade that ended 200 years ago than the multiple slave trades that are currently operational.

Doesn't fit the modern rhetoric of the evil white man and the much oppressed African

>Why is that this subject is seemingly very much ignored in the West?
Same reason why is electrification of Finland ignored.

Especially people weaker and smaller than them.

We will work to fix this user.

>that pic
why doesn't he just off himself if killing whites is such a good thing?
