Burning of the Reichstag
Marco Polo Bridge Incident

>Remember the Maine, to hell with Spain!

Not exactly a false flag, but it was most likely an unfortunate accident that was gleefully exploited to further press for war against Spain.

Well all best knowledge and that court hearing suggest the Reichstag Fire was genuine, although I have always had doubts but the evidence is the evidence.

Arguably many acts of 4th generation warfare are false flags by insurgents posing as others, including the hundreds of "blue on blue" incidents that have happened in the Afghan police and army.

The RMS Lusitania is a better example of a pretty blatant false flag. It's one of the nicest, clearest examples of Anglo perfidy imaginable.

The Gulf of Tonkin incident

I think that he means a real false flag when something is actually staged on conspiracy theory level and not things that actually happened, were open to interpretation and were used to push an agenda. That's just politics.

Are you suggesting that the British sank the Lusitania?

Turkish coup this year.

>Gleiwitz incident
I'm positive that's a false false flag.

After a war the winning side manages to dig up some guy whose sole testimony pins the blame for the entire war on the defeated side?

Way too convenient.

Erdogan wanted an excuse to purge the army and police of secularists who threatened to intervene if he took any steps toward Islamization, and Islamization was inevitable as far as he was concerned. Erdogan had the support of the hardline Muslims if the purge touched off a civil war, and he'd at least gain control of the capital and the second city before the army could react. The "coup" was therefore his bid to strengthen his position in case of a civil war, if not avoid a civil war altogether, and it worked. Everyone I know in Turkey says the coup was a false flag. The only people I've heard say it was an actual coup are talking heads on western media.

Putting a bunch of ammunition and other military shit such as material used in explosives on a civilian ship, having said ship sink exceedingly quickly due to one torpedo, the British government to this day refusing to declassify anything related to the ship's final moments and people who have explored the wreckage finding active mines around it (as if someone doesn't want it being explored) is pretty goddamn suspicious.

If the Royal Navy didn't outright sink the Lusitania (which is how the conspiracy goes), then the Brits willingly put 2000 otherwise innocent people in danger in the hopes of a German attack to be used for propaganda purposes.

Always found that funny. Everyone calling him/her/it a shitty fucking turkroach, when the namefag was calling him/her/itself a turkroach as well.

Don't these historical known false-flags serve as a reason to believe current or recent attacks may be faked?

The Russian apartment bombings. The idea they were a false flag is very widespread among western intelligence agencies. For what that's worth.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_apartment_bombings

Personally to me the signs points towards English deliberately leaving her open for a German submarine attack in the hopes that Krauts would take the bait and sink her rather than they themselves sinking it. Add in the post-sinking propaganda campaign that portrayed German attack as some kind of inhumane attack against innocent civilians instead of krauts attacking a perfectly valid target loaded with munitions and you've got a pretty successful operation to increase the anti-German mentality in the USA.

The Brits bombed 5 ships in two years, running Jewish refugees, and set up a fake group called "Defenders of Arab Palestine", to claim responsibility for the bombings.

Israel admits that in 1954, an Israeli terrorist cell operating in Egypt planted bombs in several buildings, including U.S. diplomatic facilities, then left behind "evidence" implicating the Arabs as the culprits.

The CIA admits that it hired Iranians in the 1950's to pose as Communists and stage bombings in Iran in order to turn the country against its democratically-elected prime minister.

The Turkish Prime Minister admitted that the Turkish government carried out the 1955 bombing on a Turkish consulate in Greece - also damaging the nearby birthplace of the founder of modern Turkey - and blamed it on Greece, for the purpose of inciting and justifying anti-Greek violence.

The British Prime Minister admitted to his defense secretary that he and American president Dwight Eisenhower approved a plan in 1957 to carry out attacks in Syria and blame it on the Syrian government as a way to effect regime change.

...and I'm outta room - it's easier to list which wars were NOT started as a result of false flags, than those that were.

Probably a hologram filmed on Mercurius to hide the truth.

Winston Churchill wrote to Walter Runciman, the President of the Board of Trade, stating that it is "most important to attract neutral shipping to our shores, in the hope especially of embroiling the United States with Germany."

Plus, when the Discovery channel (of all folks) went down there, they found several unexploded depth charges.

>it's easier to list which wars were NOT started as a result of false flags, than those that were.
You made a very good and reliable list without venturing into conspiracy theory bullshit but jumped to a very far reaching conclusion. Most of those incidents didn't start a war at all and almost if not all of the once that were followed by a war weren't the decisive reason for the war. Also, many of the incidents you described did the reverse of achieving their purpose by either backfiring immediately or discrediting everything once they became known.

Well, I ran out of room. I'd need 20,099 characters to list them all.

I am exaggerating with that final statement slightly, yes, but nearly every war for the past three centuries has had a series of false flags, either directly or indirectly, leading to the tension that spawned it, even in those situations where the war wasn't officially started over the operation itself.

It's just pretty much become standard procedure. And the fact that for every false flag that achieved it's goal, there's another thousand that didn't, and another thousand plans that never came to fruition for each of those, just goes to show how parfor the course such activity has become.

I think that in times of pre war tensions that are caused by the ''big picture'' stuff, internal struggles between appeasers and hawks (with both sides having both legitimate and corrupt reasons for their stance) happen. This includes both open debate and covert activity like trying to hide/highlight and in extreme cases create incidents that can cause the public to swing to their side. When those struggles become public they give the impression that the whole war was only caused by those symphtomatic actions and not by the big picture politics but I think that this is an illusion. You can usually see the countries getting on a collision course long gefore the ''final straw'' incidents, weather they are real or staged. It's also way smarter to wait for a real incident to happen and using it instead of staging one and risking exposure.

True, wars usually happen for a reason. Very often the false flags are simply more fuel for an already existing fire.

But, particularly in today's world of social engineering, mass media, and social networks, it's more tempting than ever to clandestinely, or even not-so-clandestinely, change the tide of public opinion. There's more tools and methodologies to do so than ever before, as well as more opportunities and more motivations. There's now entire industries based on this modus operandi, to either bring the public focus to an existing enemy, previously lost in the background noise, or to create a new enemy where there previously was none.

The tinfoils are often wrong, and often a victim of the manipulation themselves, but recently, their batting average seems to have been going up exponentially.

A minor one but during the HW bush administration and the war on drugs one guy was lured in front of the White House with drugs on him and arrested so Bush could make a point.

Do you think there might be a Turkish civil war in the near future?

Also not long before the sinking of the Lusitania the Brits had started using fake merchant/civilian ships as decoys because the "rules" stated the Germans would have to give warning to civilian ships so that when the Germans did, the subs' position was exposed and could be dealt with. This led the Germans into "well, we play by the rules and keep getting fucked up by dirty tricks or we toss the rules aside" with them choosing the latter.

Churchill was fucking pissed that, although it stirred up anti-German sentiment, the Americans didn't take the bait such that the US finally did enter the war in 1917, he bitched that they hadn't taken the opportunity to do so two years earlier.

What is the story for this? I'm imagining Bush giving a speech about drugs and then saying "Look, there's a drug user right there, get him!" and then a bunch of secret service guys arresting the dude while everyone claps

Not nearly as far from the truth as it should be:

The temptation is bigger, there are more attempts but the fact that there are so many information sources that are essentially circle jerks for very specific groups. For this reason they are deemed as unreliable by all the other groups (who have their own snowflake circle jerk info sources) so in the end, the ability to crate a reliable false flag that will both convince enough of the fragmented groups and will not be discredited by unbelievers and leaked is very diminished. The fact that you see more of them just shows you how much more easily detectable they are. There are no more "unique picture of dead child from conflict x that presented someone as right and triggered everybody int action". There are just hundreds such pictures form different sides and people arguing over them in the comments, each with his own stupid conspiracy theory.

That might partly bare out, but given that we generally only confirm a conspiracy theory to be true fifteen to thirty years after the fact, that's yet to be seen. And people still have a hard time believing in conspiracy theories, even after the president makes a public apology.

You mean you guys didn't immediately realize it's a blatantly obvious shitposter? You guys never seen people roleplaying on Veeky Forums.
There were people who actually took the label seriously? Holy shit.
I bet you're the guys who think every WWII thread is made by /pol/.

You have no idea the amount of shit he stirred up amongst the butthurt balkanfags and /pol/tards that took his LARPing seriously.

All he had to do was post one picture with that stupid cat and the thread would be derailed into a "FUCKING TURKROACH, DEUS VULT!" shitfest.

you forgot the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

I've been on Veeky Forums for years and never seen the amount of butthurt he caused. I'm used to /int/ shitposters where Australians and Canadians are running rampant so people have to learn fast and they're pretty good at noticing that shit.

/pol/ is a hugbox and Veeky Forums is full of aspies so they just didn't know how to handle him. It was great.
