What are the problems with this board and how do we fix it? Is this board even used at all by janitors and mods?
Removing the 'humanities' part is a common request, but there's legit discussions to be had about it. The problem is people using it to slip in shitposts under the guise of 'humanities', especially for /pol/-tier content. Maybe we could remove 'humanities' out of the title but still allow it informally?
Sebastian Perry
>Is this board even used at all by janitors and mods?
Yes, there is. /b/ tier stuff, pornography, random bullshit does get deleted, and fairly quickly by Veeky Forums standards. Post up a no-topic and a picture of someone shitting, and your thread will get deleted quickly.
It's that /pol/ isn't. My personal suspicion is that we have /pol/ in the moderation seat, or perhaps many of the jans.
Adam Thompson
Only solution is deleting this board. When this place was first created the main nay say was that this board would require stupid ammounts of extra modding. Turns out the nay sayers were right.
Samuel Ramirez
NO. This board can not become a place where a bunch of purely history orientated nerds come to jerk off over the same stale memes. Humanities is the life blood of Veeky Forums.
Ayden James
the problems aren't a big deal, no changes needed, Veeky Forums was never going to be strictly academic
Leo Cooper
How'd you get a pic of me OP?
Alexander Perez
It's an academic board though. Like Veeky Forums.
Hell if I wanted to talk about political science I'd rather post here than /pol/
Tyler Jackson
nothing on Veeky Forums is academic, stop pretending otherwise. also meta threads are against the rules.
Austin White
Get rid of &Humanities
I think that's the one thing we can agree on here.
Zachary Bailey
&Humanities isn't the problem. 99% of polposting is about the nazis, and that would be on-topic for a history board.
Michael Price
...
Jackson Barnes
Ban the discussion of nazi's, or more extremely, the european front, for the greater good. Nothing good EVER comes of it
Joshua Roberts
Clearly state the discussion of religion from a supernatural angle belongs on /x/, with everything else paranormal. So no backing up your argument with "I felt the holy spirit."
John Taylor
it's Veeky Forums, so you need shitposting just by nature of the site.
frankly, i'm glad i can have serious academic discussion intermixed with shitposting. it's better than dipshit ideologues mixed with shitposting.
Jayden Morales
dumbasses think this is a "haven" from /pol/ and just seem to enjoy complaining about them. they have no problem with discussion about politics and shit that's not history (using "humanities" as a guise), but only if it fits their views. It's just /pol/ but on the opposite side of the spectrum. Equally autistic at that. The other problem is the content, which lacks any real definition due to that "& humanities" that guarantees shitposting and endless flame wars.
How to fix? Remove "& Humanities" and ban dumbasses who even bother to reply to /pol/ bait and ban the dumbasses who start shitty political threads. That or just delete the board. I wouldn't mind that really, it was more fun on /int/ when you could tell if it's a dumb turk or american speaking nonsense.
Dominic Martinez
Be the kind of poster you want others to be. They will follow.
Landon Roberts
I kind of think that making a separate board for humanities would be a good idea sometimes. It sucks to discuss economics on Veeky Forums and it sucks even more to discuss political science on /pol/
Benjamin Collins
The only problem here is /pol/ crossover.
There should just be a rule that people who post on /pol/ must wait three hours before posting on Veeky Forums. That would improve our discussion in a big way.
John Young
This also shows the need for a religious board. So from overpopulation if Veeky Forums three things should happen
1. Banning discussing history from a biased perspective 2. Creation of a Humanities board 3. Creation of a Theology board
Andrew Jenkins
>from a biased perspective
How the fuck do you measure that? Lmao
Austin Nguyen
If you can plainly see the bias, it should be an auto prune.
It's obvious to see why I made that one the first and most important point: look at all the Nazi threads
Levi Wright
>My personal suspicion is that we have /pol/ in the moderation seat, or perhaps many of the jans.
The idea of /pol/ as a containment board was totally wrong. /pol/ attracts new people to Veeky Forums with adolescent neo-Nazi views who then seep out to other boards unless they're clearly made unwelcome.
I remember a whole bunch of requests for a Veeky Forums board on Veeky Forums and /int/ but the consensus seemed to be that it would become /pol/-like very quickly, that you couldn't trust Veeky Forums not to become an endless series of posts about WWII.
Eli Rivera
It's no big deal.
Caleb Miller
>the need for a religious board We can't just expect endless fragmentation, if anything I would expect management would be looking to cut boards not add new ones. A religion board would just be an obvious target for trolling, anyway.
Dominic Ramirez
Instead of ranting, I will thank to everyone who uses the memegeneral thread to post memes instead of spaming them through the whole board all day all days. Thank you.
There is people who keep trying to push whatever shitty meme they have found wherever they have the chance, but the amount of blatantly shitty memethreads is lower.
So thanks to all those people who just post in the meme general and "respect" the board.
John Perry
having a place to discuss 'humanities' is a good thing
there are two problems realy, /pol/ keeps pushing its retarded discourse on Veeky Forums, when it should be the other way around, and most peoples interest in history isnt realy a interest in history, its more a hardon for whichever faction they last played in some strategy game or something like that
notice how the majority of threads is about things people identify with, like persons, peoples or genereal events, theres always a sort of 'protagonist' either singular or as a group or culture, and then the thread is about comparing them and making value judgments on them and their 'accomplishments' and trough that affirming some ideological or moral stance
now this is typical Veeky Forums way of discussing shit, goes back to the troll threads of old that sort of became how people talk
but when was the last time we had a thread on, idk, history of the car industry, or how some alphabet was made up, or architecture of some period, or like, hellenism in central asia, or how some technology developed, or some social set up came about, or anything that wouldnt immediately devolve into poltardation at best we get threads like 'why didnt greeks invent steam engine'
maybe we should focus on moments when Veeky Forums is good, like say threads on things like occult, religion or magic, threads about specific countries or regions in specific time periods, threads on archeology, there were some good ones, then see why they werent complete shit and try to do more of that
Henry Cook
What are you talking about?? I've seen more support for a religious board than I have for a humanities board.
That's why I included it in the major three points everyone has been talking about
Asher Lewis
Like I said you can't just expect boards to constantly fragment or Veeky Forums will either end up like Reddit or there won't be a critical mass to make the board work.
You can't honestly believe that /rel/ would not attract a crazy number of anti-religious trolls...
Grayson Collins
Veeky Forums doesn't attract a particularly high number of religious trolls.
I've just listed the three most important issues for Veeky Forums ITT
Cameron King
Veeky Forums is flawless
It's better to have a board where tons of people disagree with one another than one that is a giant circle-jerk.
thin-skinned cunts want to turn it into a hugbox but that's not going to happen.
Is your vagina feeling sore because there are /pol/tards wildly shitposting all over the board? Where's your sense of sportsmanship? Arguing with /pol/tards is like getting to be the schoolyard bully pounding on a red headed sperglord who runs his mouth and makes a funny noise when you hit him. Why the fuck would you want them to go anywhere?
Or are you feeling blue because all these fucking Marxists act like they've never picked up an actual history book in all the 14 years they've been alive? Fucking take one out of your shelf, snap a picture of the material you're sourcing, and pimp slap that uppity git with it. They also make a funny noise
I don't want any of you salty rat bastards to go anywhere because when there is vigorous discussion we teach each other and avoid self-reinforcing negative feedback loops where our immediate reaction to a dissenting opinion is to disregard it
Sebastian Ross
>What are the problems with this board You literally can not take anything you read seriously as the majority is just made up, unsourced bullshit. >how do we fix it you cant. Veeky Forums was a mistake
Luis Watson
the hotpocketeer in charge of this board is pro Trump I've received a one day ban three times in past month and a half for making anti Trump posts (not threads)
Christopher Sanchez
Honestly, the only thing I'd ban outright would be holocaust denial because it's been debunked many times and its proponents aren't interested neither in debating nor even in shitposting about it. It is just propaganda.
Aaron Morales
I dont know where you live or who you are, but I would give you a hug (no homo). Fuck yeah, discussion and conflict! Its the Salt of life, what keeps things like this board going around. You dont want Veeky Forums to become /pol2/ ? You find boring threads withouth source?
Fight back!
We study and tell the story of great mean and civilization. And we as a group should honor them by being fucking great. Or at least go down fighting
Brody Nelson
Nice get for a nice post
Oliver Williams
Why would you even discuss Trump on a history board?
>Fight back! Argue with adolescent nazis on the internet, yeah definitely. As long as /pol/ is part of Veeky Forums, it will be impossible to avoid their idiocy.
Asher Wilson
That is mildly hilarious
Michael Taylor
I feel that the general level of discussion is rather low. The same threads are repeated over and over again.
Logan Jenkins
That's because generally the level of historical knowledge here is woefully low. Basic historical facts that have been established in scholarship for centuries are bandied about by a bunch of incompetent tards with maybe one or two knowledgeable people per thread. Those sorts of posters who actually know their shit come out with a long, well reasoned post which destroys the argument and credibility of OP and his supporters. Since it's no fun however, said post is completely and utterly ignored as people are drawn to the shitposts.
Hudson Moore
Because this board has no entry restriction or unofficial filtration.
Every single shitpost people fall for hook, line and sinker instead of ignoring the obvious shit post.
You basically end up fighting a losing war either way where engaging in proper posting etiquette does nothing. How am I supposed to engage in discussion when like 10 posters are on an autistic hate circle jerk where they flood threads that trigger them who refuse to educate themself.
Know one bothers to educate them-self which further kills the quality. Like people here are expecting, EXPECTING you to sponfeed them shit they should have already known if they had an iota of interest on the topic so some naive fuck has to go out of their way and try to hammer some knowledge in them which often fails because facts to those people is like water on a duck.
Spoon feeding does nothing because if you spoonfeed one guy another guy will come in and another and another and so on and so forth until the thread gets shit up/a bad board culture is formed where yo are idiot-enabling.
We need to adopt a modified /a/ policy of just ignoring these people. Just throw some academic sources at them that relates to their post and if they read up on it that's good, they now have some basis to stand on. If they ignore it's all on them. Regardless on how they respond the journey to self education the rest of the journey is up to them and you can't go any further.
Jaxon Johnson
We basically have topics that are insta shitposted or just plain guaranteed threads that fail because of the people who start and post in holocaust denial threads.
>Fuck yeah, discussion and conflict! Its the Salt of life, what keeps things like this board going around.
There's a difference between discussion and people engaging in executrices of ignorance. People don't like having to spoonfeed facts or correct idiots for every single thread about whatever topic like WW2, Africa, black people, East Asia, Natives, Pre Columbian people, Germans, religion, the Middle East etc.
One guy you can easily ignore but when it's like 3+ people who are steering the thread from discussion to having to deal with them.
