dumbasses think this is a "haven" from /pol/ and just seem to enjoy complaining about them. they have no problem with discussion about politics and shit that's not history (using "humanities" as a guise), but only if it fits their views. It's just /pol/ but on the opposite side of the spectrum. Equally autistic at that. The other problem is the content, which lacks any real definition due to that "& humanities" that guarantees shitposting and endless flame wars.

How to fix? Remove "& Humanities" and ban dumbasses who even bother to reply to /pol/ bait and ban the dumbasses who start shitty political threads. That or just delete the board. I wouldn't mind that really, it was more fun on /int/ when you could tell if it's a dumb turk or american speaking nonsense.

I kind of think that making a separate board for humanities would be a good idea sometimes. It sucks to discuss economics on Veeky Forums and it sucks even more to discuss political science on /pol/

The only problem here is /pol/ crossover.

There should just be a rule that people who post on /pol/ must wait three hours before posting on Veeky Forums. That would improve our discussion in a big way.

2. Creation of a Humanities board
3. Creation of a Theology board

The idea of /pol/ as a containment board was totally wrong. /pol/ attracts new people to Veeky Forums with adolescent neo-Nazi views who then seep out to other boards unless they're clearly made unwelcome.

I remember a whole bunch of requests for a Veeky Forums board on Veeky Forums and /int/ but the consensus seemed to be that it would become /pol/-like very quickly, that you couldn't trust Veeky Forums not to become an endless series of posts about WWII.

there are two problems realy, /pol/ keeps pushing its retarded discourse on Veeky Forums, when it should be the other way around, and most peoples interest in history isnt realy a interest in history, its more a hardon for whichever faction they last played in some strategy game or something like that

notice how the majority of threads is about things people identify with, like persons, peoples or genereal events, theres always a sort of 'protagonist' either singular or as a group or culture, and then the thread is about comparing them and making value judgments on them and their 'accomplishments' and trough that affirming some ideological or moral stance

now this is typical Veeky Forums way of discussing shit, goes back to the troll threads of old that sort of became how people talk

but when was the last time we had a thread on, idk, history of the car industry, or how some alphabet was made up, or architecture of some period, or like, hellenism in central asia, or how some technology developed, or some social set up came about, or anything that wouldnt immediately devolve into poltardation
at best we get threads like 'why didnt greeks invent steam engine'

maybe we should focus on moments when Veeky Forums is good, like say threads on things like occult, religion or magic, threads about specific countries or regions in specific time periods, threads on archeology, there were some good ones, then see why they werent complete shit and try to do more of that

I feel that the general level of discussion is rather low. The same threads are repeated over and over again.

That's because generally the level of historical knowledge here is woefully low. Basic historical facts that have been established in scholarship for centuries are bandied about by a bunch of incompetent tards with maybe one or two knowledgeable people per thread. Those sorts of posters who actually know their shit come out with a long, well reasoned post which destroys the argument and credibility of OP and his supporters. Since it's no fun however, said post is completely and utterly ignored as people are drawn to the shitposts.

There's a difference between discussion and people engaging in executrices of ignorance. People don't like having to spoonfeed facts or correct idiots for every single thread about whatever topic like WW2, Africa, black people, East Asia, Natives, Pre Columbian people, Germans,religion, the Middle East etc.

One guy you can easily ignore but when it's like 3+ people who are steering the thread from discussion to having to deal with them.
