Poland is pretty well off today, actually is the only country in the EU that wasnt effected by the 2008 financial crisis. Small thing, while religious freedom and other liberties were present, unprecedented at that time. Besides, Ruthenians =/= cossacks. Cossacks were just a social warrior class in eastern Poland, not an ethnicity. They were mostly Ruthenian, but Poles joined cossack ranks to. Only a small number of Ruthenians became cossacks.

After Russia dissolved cossack hetmanate they immediately incorporated cossacks into Russian army and made good use of them. Shows how incompetent poles are.

The cossacks literally started out as military units of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. It was a warrior class who developed from living on the steppes near the constantly raiding Tatars. Later on they started rebelling the kings were lowering the cossack registries of the Hetman armies for various reasons (mostly their own fault) and thus many stopped getting paid and became "jobless"; and angry.
Later on they were semi-autonomous and a pain in the ass, but they were the most free people in the Commonwealth because they didn't follow the laws and many didn't want to go to that god forsaken area of Sich, besides many criminals who wanted to escape the law from all over the Commonwealth.

And that happened, I'm not denying that. But peasants were fleeing from neighboring countries to Poland, it's documented. And Poland had a mass emigration from all around Europe in the middle ages (mostly HRE) and during its Golden Age (Netherlands, Italy and the British Isles) for a reason.
