We Catholics have no problem with worshiping idols as long as we call them images and call worship veneration.
its because ancient people used to hallucinate a god voice inside their head which they projected into idol worship and ancestor worship
t. bicameral mind theory
Would the eucharist be considered an idol since christians believe that God is literally within the object or idol?
>bicameral mind theory
That would mean that people who still do it didnt change yet.
Nothing in Catholicism is considered an idol as long as his holiness the pope (*kiss feet*) says so.
Don't tell protties though. They just don't understand our little - thing. Heh, fucking heretics. Praise the pope and Mary. Oh yeah and that guy Jesus too.
I really don't know. I guess worshiping idols is kinda silly, as in actually worshiping the item. But if God is everywhere, directing your energy towards an ideal in his likeness doesn't seem negative. Same with gods. If gods are spirits, and I assume your prayers reach them in some way or another then whats the big deal using ideals to get a mental image in your mind.
> why did they caused such an enormous amount of butthurt
Yahwists being butthurt about having no A E S T H E T I C S.

>Praying to inanimate objects is mentally sound.
>In b4 "and praying to thin air is?"
At least it's more logical and reasonable, all things considered. And is more aesthetic than toy figurines for grown people.
Because Abr*hamics ruin everything they touch.
>abstract halfassed bullshit
The others are ok
^This, glad to see a fellow Jaynesian on Veeky Forums.
>That would mean that people who still do it didnt change yet.
No it wouldn't. People who worship idols usually don't report hearing the voice of their god when they do it. There are records of ancient people lamenting no longer being able to hear their gods. So you could have the original situation being ancient people actually getting something back from their worship progressing to today's situation where some people still outwardly follow the rituals but don't get that same thing out of it anymore. This is similar to those cases where ancient religious practices were centered around psychoactive substances but over time the mind altering drug part fell away and modern practitioners only continue the chanting or ritualistic body movements not knowing they're leaving something out.
It's almost as if They were from 2000 years prior to your little turd
Those wooden Manchurian didoes are not 4000 years old.
>At least it's more logical and reasonable
In what way?
>And is more aesthetic than toy figurines for grown people.
An opportunity for limitless artistic expression will be inherently more aesthetic.
Abrahamic monotheism has a knee jerk reaction to them. Being raised in an abrahamic household I feel inherent displeasure regarding idols, now imagine every other community perpetuating those beliefs
Where the fuck did people get this idea that you actually pray to the idol as in actually believing a fucking clay figurine to be a god, nobody ever believed that people made idols because people make art that's just what we do, you can either make retarded modern abstract art, sculpt portraits or use motifs common to your culture - gods, myths, whatever
Then after you make figure of how you envision a god you might as well put him on a temple and cover him with gold to show the guy that at least you respect him.
>it's another "protestant sperging puy at the Pope acting like Christ" episode
>bicameral mind theory
probably the most american thing ever
>so here is a certain historical phenomenon
>it probably has a distinct neurological basis because muh science
>wat is hermeneutics?? wat is historical context????
straw man.
no evidence for bicameral mind, just hypothetical speculation.
BOI SHE T H I C C
Cycladic idols are top tier a e s t h e t i c.
It pisses me off when christcuck come to me telling me to quit using drugs and puking in the center of the town, without realizing their whole religion is based on eating Amanita Muscaria and burning weed incense
T.people who have never had a mystical experience while sober. if you put the work in you'll get something eventually. prayers, meditation and fasting all advance the spirit.
