Hercules is patron of slaves and outcast

>Hercules is patron of slaves and outcast
>shiva is patron of slaves and outcaste
>dozens of other well known gods, demigods, saints and heroes are patrons of slaves and outcaste
>neopagans, atheist and Jews single out Christ as being "patron of the meek" as if it's an unheard principal or a bad thing
Why do they do this?

Hercules is one God among many, Jesus is the central figure of Christianity.

Meekness and humility are not core moral tenets of paganism, but are so in the case of Christianity.

>neopagans, athiest and Jews single out Chirst as being "patron of the meek" as if it's an unheard prinicpal or a bad thing
[citation needed]

I've seen on this board multiple times. If you haven't I just recommend you lurk more.

>Lurk more
If anything, I've lurked too much
I never see neopagans or Jews on this board at all, as for athiests, I can only assume you're talking about athiests associating modern christians with the American republican party and pointing out that they care little for the meek. so agian, im gonna ask directly this time, what the actual fuck are you talking about

Neopagans accuse Christianity of having a "slave mentality" all the fucking time. They accuse it of being cucked for this reason all the fucking time. Exhibit A

I've heard the "slave mentality" thing but I've never seen it associated with "neopagans" until now

>I've heard the "slave mentality" thing but I've never seen it associated with "neopagans" until now
So you admit you were playing dumb? Who the fuck did you think says it? Other Christians?

>this guy told me to lurk moar just moments ago
you're on Veeky Forums friendo
the answer you're looking for is "trolls"

Not him, but I've definitely seen a Jew or two. Or at least, I assume someone who autistically corrects people on their Hebrew OT grammar, like in these posts in a different thread
would be Jewish.

>thinks people who sling insults at each other for partisan reasons on Veeky Forums are only trolling
They aren't. Perhaps the viciousness is exaggerated but most are sincere about their political or religious convictions.

Are you fucking retarded?

Once again another deus vulting retard bitching about his imaginary enemies as a reason for why his religion is retarded.

We are a diverse lot. Mostly atheist and Catholics. Some Western pantheist who could be considered meaningfully neopagan. Also a few unironic neopagans (Hethenry/asatru)

It happens on /pol/ all the time.

Once again not an argument is proposed.

Thor and Hercules were patrons of the meek in that they helped them STOP being meek.

Christ is a patron of the meek in that he encourages people to BE meek.

There is a crucial difference, op.

>Christ is a patron of the meek in that he encourages people to BE meek.
Where? He says Blessed are the meek but urges people to take up their cross (which requires strength).

Urging people to give up worldy things of all sorts, to abandon friends and family for not being Christian, and the attitude displayed by the Catholic church and protestant churches IS encouraging people to be meek and is "slave morality" according to many pagans (I personally think that term is fucking stupid, but whatever).

Lol that's not what it means to take up the cross, it means you should be satisfied with what you get.

>Urging people to give up worldy things of all sorts
The logic is those material things make us slaves. By letting go of them we are set free.
>to abandon friends and family for not being Christian
I would thing the Christian response would be trying to convert them as opposed to abandoning them. Still, a lot of Christians throughout history have had non-Christian friends and family and it hasn't really been problematic. If someone does do this it's telling more about them than the faith.

Not that we need to see eye to eye theological, i'm just explaining it from a Christian perspective.

>Lol that's not what it means to take up the cross
"He who would have me, let them take up their cross and follow me"

It's absolutely what it means.

>The logic is those material things make us slaves. By letting go of them we are set free.
Oh I understand that completely. But, from the neopagan perspective, the notion of "let go of the world" is silly. There is no separation between "profane material" and "sacred immaterial", they're connected.

And on the second point, both neopagans and the European pagans of old viewed their religion just as much as "interaction with the gods" as it was "ethnic and tribal affiliation". Abandoning your family and your group, be it for monasticism or because they aren't Christian or because you're an asshole is abhorrent.

"Christianity is a slave religion/promotes weakness" arises from a difference in terminology.

What do you expect? You're just throwing an impotent bitchfit over people bullying your imaginary friend.

>aabandoning your family and your group, be it for monasticism or because they aren't Christian or because you're an asshole is abhorrent.
This isn't common though. Nor is it commanded.

You realize a lot of pagan practices had shamans, right? This is comparable to the function of monasticism.

Dude I was raised a Christian and I am constantly around Christians of different denominations and this verse is always used in the context of some suffering one has to learn to deal with, it has nothing to do with lol strength as you seem to imply.

>Dude I was raised a Christian
And I am Christian. With a Christian family and predominantly Christian friends. It appears we're at an impasse of what the meaning is so we'll agree to disagree.

Really? You think the people on Veeky Forums, when they're not busy shitposting about PC/console wars, forced memes from weird movies, fapping to their choice of porn, or crying about how hard their love lives or lives in general are, spend their time earnestly sitting in the corner and lighting incense, drawing magic circles, and sacrificing chickens or some shit?

Hell, do you really think they're going to church or synagogue or mosque every weekend, let alone every day, or actually leaving their houses to attend a local townhall meeting or a pro-something march?

The others offer aspiration; Jesus offers pity.

*mercy

Only from a Christian perspective.

What Christ did is more noble than any mythological god

When is Herc ever alluded to be a patron of slaves and outcasts?

From the article google.com/amp/s/www.ancient.eu/amp/2-733/?client=safari

"Although he was seen as the champion of the weak and a great protector"

I know that's brief and doesn't explain why he was viewed that way. I've read more about it but can't think of any sources right now, but if you research the right things it will come up

Any recommended reading on him? He's one of my favorite mythological figures

so slaves convert

Slave mentality is liberating.

>Omphale was a queen or princess of Lydia. As penalty for a murder, imposed by Xenoclea, the Delphic Oracle, Heracles was to serve as her slave for a year
He also did thet twelve labors, one of which include cleaning a stable, which is a pretty menial and humbling thing. It must have been inspiring for plebs that a demigod lowered himself to their level and was subsequently deified.

Honestly most of knowledge of Greek myth knowledge from bulfinch's mythology, various online sources and miscellaneous books. Some of which were more into comparative myth than focus on actual deities.

Not really, considering that he's responsible for original sin in the first place.

Seriously where do you edgy kids get this shit? Do you read it in some blog or you make it up yourselves?

Veeky Forums is a Protestant board

Check the answers yourself. That isn't the case.
