Why are there virtually no indiaphiles? India was incredibly rich historically and is still culturally diverse. They even speak english. Yet, they always play second-fiddle to China. There's nearly always a china thread up whereas I can't even remember a good thread on India or Indian history.
They've been on the "good" side of conflicts AFAIK, and are a current US ally, and are a democracy on top of it. Is it the curse of being not exotic/foreign enough, or are they really that unremarkable?
I don't think any westerner has been able to publish something like "A Guide of India" that managed to be popular.
Nowadays, our introduction to world cultures is seeing their ass prolapse from being reamed by a Los Angeles jew.
Joshua Phillips
It's not that they're not interesting it's just depressing talking about a country that gets mass raped every few hundred years and never really does anything about it except starve themselves.

>Why are there virtually no indiaphiles?
Because India is a dirt-poor shithole with an economy smaller than France's despite having a population larger than that of the EU and USA combined.
Austin Brown
I don't understand. How could they have been as rich as they were, and NOT have interesting triumphs? From what I've read, India was terrible at recording their own history. Is that the cause? That they are terrible story-tellers?
Brandon Reyes
Must not be that many Rajeshes here.
Brayden Perry
Their various vedantic philosophies are great. their country cant progress because theyre too diverse, no sanitation, and their cultures tend to be very backwards

They were the forerunners to eastern culture but couldn't continue it. Now look at them. A country that can't get its shit together with a majority of its services privatized.

>Why are there virtually no indiaphiles?
Real answer:
Because India is just extremely unaesthetic and irrelevant.
European culture is, almost entirely, extremely beautiful in the art, architecture, music, and literature it has created. Most of the non-European cultures that are obsessed over (Chinese, Japanese, Egyptian, Mesoamerican etc) all have elements in their art (especially visual art and architecture) that are extremely striking and beautiful, they also often have either mesmerising music and unique and important histories and mythologies (or both).
India on the other hand just doesn't really excel in any areas that captivate people. Their visual art is relatively uninspired (excepting, of course, the pornographic statues, those are not bad), their architecture is of little note, and they are not particularly accomplished monument builders (generally this revolves around religious buildings, and hindu temples are just a mess to look at). Indian music does hold some interesting qualities, but it is not nearly as striking as east Asian music or as vital and earthily primitive as native American music or whatever else, you get the picture I'm sure. They also have a very overly-complex religious mythology, but without being as completely alien as other complex belief systems. To top this off, they have no particularly notable religious practices, they don't make human sacrifices by the thousand, they don't have the autistic Confucian pursuit of perfection, they don't have any crusades or jihads of any significance.
And last but not least, Indian history is just really inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. India is a land that has done nothing but get repeatedly conquered by waves of outsiders. There is no Indian equivalent to Alexander or Genghis or even Hirohito, there are no Indian equivalents to Rome or Great Qing.
Matthew Sanchez
wtf are you talking about OP every white college kid with a rich daddy has plans to go to India they are the "safest" exotic location to travel to

Well Indian culture and art inspired alot of other, better art. Without India, there would be no beautiful Buddhist temples in the East. But India's time is gone. For now.

I will say however that India is one of the most barbaric backwards countries in the world and it is ungodly hot and humid. It is no place for a civilized man who loves pure water, clean air, and safe food.
Caleb Walker
Its not India fault that out of all aspects of Indian culture, those degenerates only take new age mysticism and drug stuff
I feel like Indian architecture and music takes a quantity over quality approach.
This is just my personal opinion, but I think pic related looks far too crowded. It would be better off only having a quarter of the statuary, but keeping the overall form.
A similar thing can be seen in much Indian music where they just jam the fuck out and cram as much shit in; sure, in short bursts it sounds nice but without rhythm it's just...lacking.
Alexander Clark
Because Indian people are morally repulsive.
Camden Allen
"cram as much shit(spices) in" also describes their cuisine.

I think it comes down to India's current irrelevance globally and in the US.
-Their GDP is about 9th in the world -English is one of their official languages, but less than half their population speaks it and they do it in a way that makes everyone else laugh at them (no offense to Indians, but it's the truth) -Horrific problems with starvation/hygiene/overcrowding, we associate India with poverty for a reason
And most importantly, they never formed an even remotely positive relationship with the United States the way many other Asian countries have. Blame the Indians, blame the Americans, blame the Pakistanis, blame the Brits, whatever, but it just never happened. China, on the other hand, has historically been an object of fascination and interest for Americans (going back literally centuries). Japan is our best buddy.
Even at the height of the Cold War, the Russians were sending that Moscow ballet group over here to perform on a regular basis, and students were reading Tolstoy. Who is reading Indian authors? Who really give a shit about Indian movies/culture/music? The only movies I've seen involving Indians are Bend it Like Beckham and Slumdog Millionaire, and I'm like 99% sure that the girl in Bend it Like Beckham was actually Pakistani! Maybe this will change when more Indian immigrants start coming, but I wouldn't count on it with the way Trump is cracking down on those Indian tech support guys.
India is great, the world's largest democracy, unironically the best long-term global hope for values like freedom and tolerance, but we just don't care about it. And for better or worse, we're kind of the epicenter of gloaThat's why there are virtually no indiaphiles.

Yeah, give it another decade or two and they'll start climbing up the GDP ladder and we'll have more public interest (and anxiety) about India.
Zachary White
Because the first thing they did after independence is run to the ussr. Half of India's problems today stem from the fact that they were an inept, extremely corrupt socialist hell hole
Gabriel King
>we'll have more public interest
Exactly.
>and anxiety
I really doubt it. India is an incredibly useful way to contain China, if that's truly what our government wants (it's not what the deep state wants, but still). Most of them speak English, they're a democracy....maybe I'm being optimistic, but I think we'll view them the way the UK viewed the United States starting from around 1875. Sort of our "little brothers" in a sense.
And in 2117, we'll be whining about Indian cultural influence while American actors dominate Bollywood.
Yeah, they had bad luck with Nehru. A slightly better leader, one willing to work with the US....and you're looking at a completely different India today. Completely different Pakistan, too.
Cameron Rivera
Is it just me or are Indian people, even the aryan ones, just ugly in a very strange and unappealing way. I mean their faces just look really strange, it's like they're half way between Euros, Africans and Chinese but without any of the good features of any of them (>implying Africans have good features ayy lmao).

I think a certain amount of anxeity comes with any country's appearance on the world stage. There was anxiety in the 60s/70s with Japan, and there's anxiety now with China. When India gets within the top 5, they'll be a scare there, too.
Joseph Campbell
Idk. Like any other country, they have their uggos and they have their models. Even the Scottish-Americans have some attractive women lurking around.
>Bollywood is extremely popular in Africa, the UK*, and the former Soviet Union
See? This is the kind of stuff Americans don't know about. Bollywood is non-existent over here.
>Also the girl from Bend it like Beckham's parents are Sikhs from Indian Punjab
Ah, I see. Totally get it now.

1. The West hates Muslims a lot and India was Muslim controlled for ~1000 years 2. It was colonized by Britain so it lost a lot of mystery and intrigue early. Europe was fascinated by China since Marco Polo. 3. Records are much harder to find (Rajas keep information worse than empires) 4. Their culture is too varied to get a basic understanding of easily, which makes getting into the subject tedious. 5. Political irrelevance for a very long time.
Brandon Baker
Yeah, it's possible. But just like with Japan in the 70s/80s, our government will have its own agenda, and recognize that being friendly helps Japan far more than it helps.
That's why back in the 80s, when fear about Japan was at its peak, the government was still very friendly towards them. The only powerful people who were bitching were loonies who would never get into political office, like Trump.......
.....fuck.
>The West hates Muslims a lot and India was Muslim controlled for ~1000 years
That's a bit exaggerated. It's public knowledge all over the West, even in the US, that India is a Hindu country with a Muslim minority. The Muslim thing is not a problem.
Ignorance the post, most of that is just your own inability to find out about it. Just keep jacking of to slavery and corruption infested Rome and shitty peasent massacres in China.

>India was Muslim controlled for ~1000 years Once again shitty ignorance, the first Sultanate established was the Delhi Sultanate in 1203 AD that fell to the Mughals in 1526. Marathas overthrew most of the Mughals starting from the time of Aurangazeb's death in 1707 that led to the decline and virtual lose of power of the Mughal throne, it became a symbolic power as the Marathas over took them by 1720, Rajputs and Sikhs began to fight over india with the Marathas by the Third Battle of Panipat till British influence started to grow right after the Maratha defeat by the Durranis.
1203 to 1720 is nowhere close to 1000 years. Pure idiotic ignorance.

I'm not the one calling someone a "Eurocentric cuck" because they think that a girl who looks like someone from northeastern Pakistan, going by an English name in England (which has many Pakistani immigrants), and is called a "Paki" is Pakistani. It's a perfectly reasonable assumption to make.

Because there's few popular memes and pop culture attributable to India. Everything the West knows about other cultures comes down to the Victorian literary legacy and whatever modern media happens to translate into our own.
There's Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book and literally nothing else. And at best, there's some recognition of Bollywood as being a movie industry that has a lot of gaudy musical routines and funny action sequences most everyone else moved on from since Bruce Lee.
China and Japan kept relevant in the West thanks to Hong Kong action films and Anime, but India couldn't make a dent with Bollywood.

Muslim historian Firishta [full name Muhammad Qasim Hindu Shah, born in 1560 and died in 1620], the author of the Tarikh-i Firishta and the Gulshan-i Ibrahim, was the first to give an idea to the medieval bloodbath that was India during Muslim rule, when he declared that over 400 million Hindus got slaughtered during Muslim invasion and occupation of India. Survivors got enslaved and castrated. India’s population is said to have been around 600 million at the time of Muslim invasion. By the mid 1500’s the Hindu population was 200 million
