If you're going to consider Europeans as exceptionally cruel, then, you have to consider them exceptionally moral and benevolent as well.

Actually I am. As a German I am thoroughly saturated on that guilt thing. I admit I may have become insensitive to things like that. But being guilty because of my skin?

funny because I'm German too and at least my entire history education has consisted of telling us how bad Europeans and especially Christians and Germans are.

First, of course, when the topic was middle ages, we talked about how great Al-Andalus was and how evil and backwards the christians were.

I havent read too much into this and I cant say much but I recognize that there is a purpose behind this and its that someone wants to make us "ready" for accepting Muslim rule.

I dont say its explicit said we should feel guilty but I always had an implicit feeling that we are being conditioned to accept our own destruction pretty much and creating historical guilt is the best way to do so.

can confirm. We read at least 2 books in German that dealt with the Third Reich and its time. In History we came to the time of National Socialism and its aestethics. My new German teacher mentions Hitler and the Nazis in every second sentence.
also my religion teacher is a marxist so you can imagine he constantly bashes germans.

What made me think about this was reading some article in my advanced history class.

the author was basicly saying she wants to set the holocaust into context with other historical atrocities. And OF COURSE all the other historical atrocities were all atrocities commited by white people/europeans.

easily 3 times, starting in 5th grade back then. I don't remember having dealt with the other atrocities you mentioned. At least not in school. What I took from the bits I knew was other countries have their dark spots as well and we kinda overdid it: Think for yourself, Don't fall for cheap propaganda. Flag waving is bad.
Then again we had still veterans abundant. If someone wanted to know something about the nazis he'd just ask his grandparents.

I always understood this as a "human option" not so much a German or white thing. And I refuse to change that view now.

Not Germans or Whites are inherently evil, mankind is capable of unspeakable things under the right conditions. Case in point the Holocaust. Normal, civilised men and women could just kill on an industrial scale and live their lives.
