Aesthetic Classical art thread. I'll start.

(Alexander the Great)

You better mean neoclassical you ape

What's this scene supposed to be about?

Also classical art is redundant since modern art is not art.

I think it's supposed to be the visit of Alexander to Jerusalem

That beer gut though.

>modern art is not art

Couldn't agree more and i took Fine Art as one of my A-Levels.

Ooga booga

Oh so you're one of those people that correct others when they say that Bach is a classical composer. "No he's a baroque composer you ignoramus!"...

Try to be less pedantic. You'll make more friends (maybe).

I like that the Jewish temple is basically St. Peter's Basilica with th Ark of the Covenant placed in the middle.

Veeky Forums is THE place to be pedantic, I'm not trying to make friends with you neckbeards I'm trying to learn something and enjoy neoclassical art

t. neckbeard

Yeah. Don't even try.

Should I dump?

Damn son. Art > life.

Op here. Please do

Is that the real ark of the covenant? ?

Classical art refers to art made during the times of Rome and Greece

Classicism and Neoclassicism refers to art heavily influenced by Classical art, created during the Age of Enlightenment

" Classical "
Words matter dipshit, don't make excuses for your ignorance.

>you will never a rich Dutch spice merchant in the 17th century

The Assassination of Caesar

...

What the hell is that little house doing there?

...

...

I like the one fat guy who apparently slept through it all.

...

It's the weighing house. Merchants could unload their shit from ships about 100 meters from that square and then weigh it before buying/selling it.

Here is the same square from another angle. Though the city hall is still being constructed.

I always liked this one.

Here is the exchange with some neo-classical elements.

God, Claudius was so fucking cool

"But this is violence"

You have made me smile. It's good that people remember Claudius, poor bastard.

I'd wager that's the Architect, my g was controlling society even in the classical era

...

This is Cicero Denouncing Cataline

well how do you define art?

Socrates' Suicide by Ingesting Hemlock

Cincinnatus becoming first dictator of rome

I dunno if this counts, It's modern but roman

...

...

Again, Modern but roman

I'm not the first one here to post Alma-Tadema

...

It's too bad John William Godward killed himself, because he was wonderful

Is the emperor black?

>not posting the obvious

This art is just inspiring and uplifting. Imagine walking into an art gallery or museum and seeing stuff like Yet I avoid art galleries and museums like the plague because I know the kind of cancer that I'm gonna see there. I used to go a lot when I had an artsy gf. It was always unpleasant.

That's why I love classical art so much. Besides being visually beautiful it's meant to inspire metaphysical feelings with mythical or religious undertones. The way I see it, it's meant to touch the soul

WE WUZ EMPERORS AND SHEIT

I'd imagine it's not the emperor
