Must be the most American religion out there.

>not having body-thetan cleared Space Admiral powers
What are your crimes!?

no that's mormonism

seriously what's wrong with American spiritual life

It's kind of sad, but also I can't feel that bad about the people who fall for it because it's completely retarded.

Mormonism is close, but it's less focused on material success, and thus less American.

well at the lower levels it sells itself just as a type of therapy. very few have been initiated into the Xenu shit

their afterlife is all about material success: owning your own planet to play God over

that's actually pretty fucking sick, I'm gonna convert

>designed by guy who mentored under the most influential occultist of the 20th century
>with bad ass science fiction elements and aliens

Where do I sign up desu

A farce created by the ruling elites to prevent the sheep masses from creating and adopting science based religions because the next era of mankind should be godless.

>Look how bad Scientology is! Now you don't want to start something like it, do you?

Should be destroyed and annihilated

This post really means the reality of scientology is so dumb that people feel the need to imagine a more sophisticated conspiratorial context to explain its existence.

misunderstood

Interesting insight on how cults develop.

They're basically a mixture of Freudian psychoanalysis and science fiction, and lie detectors.

Are e-meters actually somewhat functional lie detectors or are they pure snake oil?

>Thoughts?
A slick marketing gimmick built around pseudoscience which successfully leverages the star power of its celebrity members that they pamper like royalty to raise its public profile in an attempt to appeal to and exploit common rubes who want to be celebrities, often bilking them for thousands of dollars.

For the truly wealthy members, they can pay 10's or even 100's of thousands of dollars to the David Miscavige slush fund in order to get snippets of L.Ron Hubbard's shitty 50's era science fiction, but when tales about xenu leaked now everybody had access to the ultimate spoilers of Scientology, and coupled with a massive backlash against their shitty and underhanded activities, have dwindled to fewer than 25,000 members.

They are a virus, social parasites who have done nothing but transfer wealth upward in exchanges for lies, shitty fiction, and the worst aspects of religious behavior amplified by crass materialism and greed.

They are the true jews. A shadowy cabal of child rapist that use brainwashed slaves to do their work as they fuck the government into doing what they want.

I am the guy who posted the conspiracy theory.

How else would you explain it? Jesus is an alien? Aliens created us and died in volcanoes or god knows what? That shit is so silly even normies know it's shit. Yet famous people, who care about their reputation more than anything, join Scientology in legions. The stars joining the religion keeps people's attention towards it. Hell, Reddit got fell head-over-heels for a new show about exposing Scientology. It's a fucking farce, made to make people shun "Neoreligions".

Ultimately, a gnostic mythic structure wrapped up in sci fi imagery instead of more classical religious symbolism.

>How else would you explain it?

It's actually as stupid as it seems.

>That shit is so silly even normies know it's shit.

Basically all popular organizations are silly. Scientology is just a little sillier than others.

No less retarded than christianity or atheism

Scientology is a perfect argument when arguing against the more traditional religions. Stuff like "The original adherers wouldn't have martyred if they didn't know it's true" or the reliability of the New Testament. It like an experimental history of religion.

We live in a fake culture with no history and we crave authentic personal experiences so hard that we make them up.

Pretty sure they're legit lie detectors

>We live in a fake culture with no history.
The ignorance in that statement is astounding

The best evidence for the advocation of banning certain religions.

This. It's actually pretty easy to see how so many people have fallen for it. The initial exposure many people had to the religion before the Xenu stuff started getting leaked was as a basic form of therapy. Before Hubbard decided to turn it into a religion, he'd been selling Dianetics as a self-help book for years, and it had been popular.

And apparently, it works relatively well. Auditing is basically just Freudian-style psychoanalysis aided with a very basic polygraph machine to make sure a person is actually under stress. The goal is to get people talking about their problems and feel better about them. It's not as effective as modern therapy, but it can make people feel better, and that's going to make a lot of people think it works and start coming back to spend more money on it.

They detect electrical conductance in the skin, and electrical conductance in the skin is associated with stress. They use it to try to find topics you're uncomfortable talking about.

This entire thread is unsubstantiated slander. We are going to subpoena Veeky Forums and get your IP addresses so we can litigate.

Consider that there's so much room, land and buildings are dirt cheap so if someone doesn't like the flavour of communion wine at their current church, they can buy a shack down the street and start their own church quite easily. There's also so many people, that a few will follow you no matter what if you have the slightest bit of charisma.

DESU it's ridiculous how Scientology has this big of a reach in American culture. It's the perfect scapegoat to warn against the "dangers" of religion.
