Yes. LTC replacing ETH is asinine, as LTC has none of the smart contract functionality that ETH does. LTC is a flight to safety by people afraid of how BTC fork will be implemented.

Right now, there is no large-scale competitor to ETH, so it's unlikely that anything would "replace" it if it crashed. ETH is the only smart contract platform with significant inroads in the development community, and has outpaced its peers/competitors due to PoW implementation (LSK was at-market first, but hasn't grown nearly as quickly because it doesn't have the dev support and is PoS, so no miners to shill for the platform.

ETH will struggle to transition to PoS over the next couple years, which could stagnate growth; in addition, any ETH-based token that is well-publicized and gets hacked will likely lead to a large correction in price, since the primary factor driving growth right now is irrational exuberance; anything that draws attention to ETH's huge attack surface will necessarily lead to a price correction.
