English upper class appreciation thread

I think the English upper class is one of the most remarkable group of people in history.

They were just a band of French adventurers who took over a tiny miserable backwater island, and yet they molded and steered that crummy nation populated with extraordinarily mediocre and untalented people to unsuspected heights, at times and in some ways almost approaching France in greatness.

It really makes you wonder just how much a people less devoid of any redeeming qualities than the English could have benefited from French leadership.

I like French history a lot but this meming is getting a little tiring.

Depends what native Britons you're talking about, the picts weren't subservient they were wild and unruly

Francophilia has gone too far

Isn't it odd how they always choose photos of Atkinson in his Mr. Bean role. You know, the one where he's deliberately made up to look as ridiculous as possible?

lol he looks the same in your pic.

Maybe if you're blind and haven't had it in months.

>An estimated 8000 Normans and other continentals settled in England as a result of the conquest, although exact figures cannot be established. Some of these new residents intermarried with the native English, but the extent of this practice in the years immediately after Hastings is unclear. Several marriages are attested between Norman men and English women during the years before 1100, but such marriages were uncommon. Most Normans continued to contract marriages with other Normans or other continental families rather than with the English.[117] Within a century of the invasion, intermarriage between the native English and the Norman immigrants had become common. By the early 1160s, Ailred of Rievaulx was writing that intermarriage was common in all levels of society.

how much of a resemblance to caste is there considering England has remained essentially classist?

Unfortunately for England it has been systematically destroying its class system throughout the 20th century, and coincidentally has gone to complete shit during that time.
