Osprey is a meme overhyped by military history fanboy pseuds
>Lots of books covering a wide variety of topics
>Small so its easy to pack so you can take one where ever you go
>Beautiful illustrations
>Fun to read
Is Osprey a meme?
Speaking as someone who knows a guy who has 2000 copies of their stuff on his laptop.
I was given the one on the Persian war and told to read that for my Ancient History A level. So it cant be that bad and nothing terrible stuck out. I have been told that anything Osprey does involving asia should be avoided since its supposedly inaccurate trash
Osprey is great
kill yourself
this
I love Osprey. I wish theyd do more medieval asian warfare though. Id love to see one on India or the Khmer. Incas and Maya too would be great.
Osprey is nice but they get quite a bit wrong when you compare it to specialist works and academic papers.
Still I often read them for the general idea or as an introduction.
Does anyone have this one?
Rude but right
I remember this time when they got the name of the argie aircraft carrier wrong, instead of "Veinticinco de Mayo" it was "Vicente de Mayo"
After that I started to be more careful about what I read
LMAO, NICE TERRIBLE ORGANISATION SYSTEM, BRAINLET
Osprey is not bad, perhaps a bit too WW2-focused though.
what? how do you do it? by era?
Through Calibre where I can arrange by Title, Author, Series, Publisher, Size etc!
>Osprey is nice but they get quite a bit wrong when you compare it to specialist works and academic papers
This, in spades. No more reliable than Wiki, arguably less so.
Thanks bruh
Any university press from a decent US or British university: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, Edinburgh, etc. Doesn't have to be a huge university, for instance the University of Hawaii constantly publishes quality works on Chinese history.
Outside of universities, Brill is excellent.
i like the idea of osprey but whenever i see their stuff here the pictures look amateurish
Only correct answer ITT.
Tbh you should really go for university publishers. I'm not going to be snooty and say "only Ivy League" or anything like that, but definitely university presses.
oxford university press
Like these Anons said University publishers are a good mark of quality. But Penguin puts out some good intro books. But sometimes they publish Journalists and other non-academics but the books themselves seem to be scholarly. I liked their book on Modern China and ive been meaning to get the book they published on Vietnamese history
I just like the pictures desu desu
Osprey is like the Wikipedia of military history.
It's good, but better if you go to the sources.
Please upload to MEGA
God.
>americans need a childrens book to learn anything
good to know who you share this board with
Oxford because they're crypto-catholics
Think a lot of Ospray's books would be better if they didn't stick with having so limited pages.
I know they put hella effort in each book, but chargeing 17 bucks for a 48-69 page book (pending on series) is a bit too much.
>implying Osprey is childrens books
kill yourself
