I dislike alt-history because 9 times out of 10 it throws all plausibility out of the window. You're basically making up your own rules.
I would even go further to say that I think you're into history for the wrong reasons. Where instead of focusing on, and appreciating what it is; you emphasize what could have been. Throwing away any lessons that could have been taught, in addition to the respect due. It's a completely useless endeavor.

You will find even with such small changes to somewhat recent events, its hard to make alt-history, because of the butterfly effect meme.

Well there would be no super power to counter the USA post ww2. Perhaps the usa with it's unrivaled strength begins making moves in Europe.

Without Russia, Sweden eats up all of Scandinavia and the northern European plains.
Poland and Sweden fight for the flat land until the Urals. Siberia is colonized by Britain or France.

Mexicans relied on the Spanish navy and army to defend all the north. The people that lived in New Mexico and California were mostly Spanish and didn't feel Mexican so independentist movements would have arised either way. After being bleeded to death by the independence war and the lack of proffessional army they could have never hold that land unless America wanted or Britain directly supported them.

Japan would expand into Siberia.
